About the Item
This is a stunning Art Nouveau - Art Deco Rose Cut and Old MIne Cut Diamond, Sapphire, Ruby and Pearl Dragonfly Insect Pendant Necklace and chain in 14 Karat Gold. The magnificent dragonfly has a central Old Mine Cut Diamond of great beauty. The wings are set with Rose Cut Diamonds and the edges of the wings adorned with square cut natural fine blue Sapphires. The eyes are round faceted Rubies. The tail is set with fancy cut fine blue Sapphires. The dragonfly hangs from a gorgeous pearl. The pendant is 14 Karat Gold. The pendant hangs from a beautiful heavy 14 Karat Gold chain.
Dragonflies were a favorite of the artists of the Art Nouveau period and their wonderful designs are as coveted today as when they were created. This dragonfly pendant is one of the most beautiful we have seen with its exquisite use of fine gems. All of the gems are set "a jour" - open backed, in order to let the maximum amount of light through the gems and create the diaphanous light filled effect of the dragonfly wings. The pendant dates to the Art Nouveau to Art Deco period, circa 1890-1930. The dragonfly necklace will dance delightfully across the body when worn and insect jewelry is all the rage today!
