Spanish Netherlands 1654 Silver Patagon Coin 18K Gold Pendant
About the Item
A large authentic Netherlands "patagon" coin minted in 1654 is held in 18K bezel simply ornamented with 3 "jawan" granulation affixed at the axis points in this interesting and impressive Steven Battelle designed creation. The coin side shown features the Saint Andrews cross dividing the date, with crown above. The reverse is a crowned and collared coat of arms. It was minted in the the province of Brabant in Netherlands during the time of Philip IV. The patagon was an important international trade coin of the time, circulating far beyond the borders of the Netherlands, including in the Spanish colonies in the New World. Please note the size relative to the dime. This pendant is sent with a laminated lifetime coin certificate of authenticity. The handmade hammered 18K gold chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant.

After a chance trip to SouthEast Asia in 1987, Steven Battelle became fascinated with the jewelry and iconology from the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Asia. Eventually forming a partnership with a dedicated group of Balinese village goldsmiths using painstaking handmade techniques, they together create unique designs that incorporate those timeless and classic motifs. He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
