About the Item
This 14k gold Victorian crescent moon pendant is beautifully studded with seed pearls and has a lovely star that balances in the center of the moon. The pearls graduate in size, with the biggest pearls toward the center and smaller pearls filling in the space of the crescent as it narrows at the tips. The pearls are bead set, and the outer row of pearls is each housed in its own squared setting. The star contains one larger pearl surrounded by five tiny pearls in each of its points. Once a pin, the piece was converted into a pendant necklace by removing the pin stem and adding a 9k gold chain, evidence of which can be seen in the residual gold on the back of the moon. Perfect for the celestial jewelry lover, the moon and stars is a timeless motif that captures the mystery of the night sky.
Celestial jewelry became popular in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, as recent advances in astronomy allowed people to look to the sky with new understanding. It has resurfaced in popularity as a major trend in contemporary fashion.
The necklace measures 18.5” with closures at 17.5” and 16.5” for multiple options of desired length. The moon pendant measures 1” x 1”. It weighs 5.2 grams. The seed pearls have age-appropriate wear: two of the pearls toward the tip are recessed in their settings. The necklace has a lobster clasp. The chain is marked as 9k; the pendant is unmarked but acid tests as 14k.
