Ernesto Pierret, A Frenchman working in Italy, was a contemporary of Castellani and one of the finest jewelry artists of Rome at this time. He, therefore, was a leading 19th century jeweler specializing in fine archeological and Etruscan Revival jewelry - which was inspired by the discovery of the 700-300 BC tombs of the Etruscan people.
Ernesto Pierret jewelry can today be seen in museum collections.
This large etruscan revival pendant is a fine example of such pieces and we have not encountered another to rival this example of fine gold work. The center stone is a hand carved carnelian scarab. Around 1930, Miriam Haskell's first designer Frank Hess designed this Russian-gilt brass ribbed-chain link bib necklace featuring 27 strands of varying length each wired to aqua faux-turquoise pressed glass beads with characteristic gold pronged-bell caps and thumbless spring-ring clasp. After the Great Depression began in the United States in 1929, to keep her popular European-style costume jewelry affordable among fashionable ladies, Haskell began using less expensive imported handcrafted glass beads, which included Czech and German pressed glass. Initially when she opened her handmade ready-to-wear costume-jewelry business in 1926 in New York City's downtown McAlpin Hotel, she had used only the finest Parisian glass beads and findings like French couturiers including Coco Chanel who soon became her competition. which Haskell promoted with the French name of her first boutique Le Bijou de L'Heure.

Italian 1850 Renaissance Revival Pendant Carved In Coral Mount In 14Kt Gold

An Italian renaissance revival pendant in coral.
Magnificent antique pendant, made up with several pieces carved from natural Italian red coral from the Mediterranean sea. This rare piece has been created most probably in Napoles around the 1850. The intricate carvings are mounted from the back with discrete wires crafted in yellow gold of 14 karats and it is fitted with two rings to slide on, in a thin delicate chain. The workmanship and multiple carvings on this piece are magnificent and extremely detailed. They show the portrait of the flora muse adorned with fruits, vines, flowers and leaves. She, in turn, is flanked by two plump cherubs dressed only in ribbons, who represent the Greek-Roman god of wine, Bacchus. They are holding multiple bunches of grapes. Below this composition hang three ornately carved bunches of grapes.

Victorian Egyptian Revival 14K Gold Reverse Painted Essex Crystal of Sphinx

This spectacular gold Egyptian revival charm features a sphinx that has been reverse carved, and hand-painted. This is called an Essex crystal, which is a cut cabochon of crystal with a carved design on the back. The technique of creating this floating effect is very precise, and dates back to the 1860's. This pendant is a vintage piece, featuring the Roman numeral of XL (40) onto it, perhaps dating this piece to 1940. Or this number could refer to something else. Regardless of the date of this piece, it is a wonderful item, made with superb craftsmanship and in a very old and special method of intaglio.
The cabochon has a lot on dimensionality, measuring 1/2 an inch. The lettering on the piece is in a striking red, which contrasts with the green...
