A fine antique, figural Dutch silver matchsafe or vesta. In .833 silver. In the form of a barrel with an applied triple anchor device to the lid. (Possibly a reference to Three Anchors bay in South Africa). With a ribbed striker surface to the base. Hallmarked to the rim. Simply a wonderful antique Dutch match safe! Date: Late 19th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with some light edge wear, some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Marks: Marked to the rim with a single sword mark for .833 silver fineness (dating to 1814-1905). Fineness: Marked with a Dutch hallmark for .833 silver fineness.
