About the Item

A fine and rare antique English Georgian sterling silver box. In the rare figural form of a snail shell or seashell. The interior of the box is gilt. It was made by Matthew Linwood II, who was a very fine Birmingham silversmith with a noted specialty in boxes. From the collection of the legendary interior decorator - Mario Buatta. Date: Early 19th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of light wear consistent with age. Condition Details: There is a small separation at the seam of the base. Maker: Matthew Linwood II Marks: Hallmarked with ML to the rim for Matthew Linwood II, a lion passant for sterling, an anchor for Birmingham, and a 'k' for 1808.
