About the Item

An antique yellow gold propelling pencil and dip pen, in 9 karat yellow gold. My favourite thing about this Antique Yellow Gold Pencil and Dip Pen is the elegant floral design. What’s yours? Perhaps the Etruscan revival terminal? Or its functionality? This unusual piece features both a propelling pencil and dip pen. The shaft of the pencil is engraved with a beautiful floral design and the finger grips (which allow the mechanism of the pencil and pen are to be expanded and retracted) are shaped as leaf motifs, topped with a gold bead. One panel of the hexagonal shaped pencil is plain, polished gold, engraved with the personal inscription “Easter 1893”. The tip of the pencil unscrews, allowing the graphite to be replaced, and the ridged section of the tip can be turned, propelling the graphite up and down within the pencil. The nib of the pen can be removed and replaced, to suit requirement. The terminal of the pencil is in the Etruscan revival design, with twisted rope details and beads of gold, and is complete with a jump ring to allow suspension from a chain (likely originally worn on a chatelaine). The pencil/pen is in good condition, with a couple of small dings to the gold on the plain panel. Pencil width, at widest: 12.6mm Pencil width, at narrowest: 5.8mm Pencil length, when closed: 101mm Pencil length, when extended: 125mm Pencil weight: 11.5g Hallmarks: jump ring marked ‘9.375’, tests as approximately 9 karat gold, circa 1893. Pen nib and internal mechanism are not gold. Your pencil will be placed in a complimentary antique style box.
