About the Item

Fabergé Honey Bear Egg, 18k Yellow Gold, Clear Flux Enamel, Smoky Quartz, Citrines, Diamonds The Honey Bear Egg, created in 2002, is one of the most playful designs of the modern Fabergé collection. On the exterior, a bee pauses delicately before three enamelled apple blossoms, hinting at the surprise within. When the egg is opened, it reveals a golden bear caught in the act of raiding a beehive. The egg is decorated in clear flux enamel over a guilloché ground. This colourless vitreous enamel allows the yellow gold beneath to shine through, producing a warm, honey-like golden hue that enhances the theme of the piece. The base is carved from smoky quartz and accented with four facetted citrines that add warmth and brilliance to the design. The apple blossoms on the upper half are enriched with six brilliant-cut diamonds, while the interior bear and beehive are crafted in solid 18k gold. The symbolism of this piece is rich and multi-layered: the bear, both strong and protective yet also seen as cute and approachable, contrasts with the industrious bee, embodying diligence and productivity. Together they evoke the interplay of strength, gentleness, and tireless work found in nature. Collectors particularly value this design for its humour, charm, and departure from the more formal Fabergé traditions. About the Fabergé workmaster Victor Mayer For two decades (1989 to 2009) the renowned German jewellery firm Victor Mayer was authorised to create exquisite Fabergé jewels and objects of art under worldwide exclusive licence. As such, Victor Mayer continued the tradition of the Fabergé workmaster for twenty years. Today, and while it no longer holds a worldwide exclusive licence in respect of jewellery, Victor Mayer remains one of Fabergé’s valued and trusted suppliers of certain jewels. About vitreous enamel The inimitably luminous colours are literally created "in the fire": layer by layer, enamel is carefully fired in at 800 degrees Celsius. During guilloching, the finest wave patterns are engraved into the gold, creating a unique depth effect. Vitreous means made of glass: this ancient technique is almost forgotten today, and Victor Mayer is perhaps the last manufactory to master it at the highest level. Availability This piece of jewellery is in our stock and can be shipped immediately. The Egg will be delivered with an original Fabergé box and certificates.
