About the Item

Fabergé "Phases of the Moon" Clock Egg, 18k Gold, Enamel, Diamonds, Rock Crystal This Fabergé egg, created in the year 2000, was the first to be made in the Art Deco style. It rests on a base of gold and slabs of onyx decorated with four guilloché-enamelled lockets. The underside of the base is set with a pane of sapphire glass that reveals the mechanical heart of the piece. At twelve noon each day it plays Debussy’s "Clair de Lune". While the musical mechanism was originally developed by Reuge, it was fully re-worked, refined and integrated by Swiss master watchmaker Paul Gerber, who also constructed the highly complex clockwork of the egg. Beneath the dome of cut and polished rock crystal lies a celestial map: an arrangement of gold-leaf stars on a dark blue enamelled sky. A gold zodiac disc rotates beneath, showing the constellations, while a moon at the centre indicates the current moon phase. The hours are shown on an enamelled dial, the minutes on a gold disc above, and the seconds on a polished rock-crystal viewing window. The celestial map and moon phases are mechanically linked to the timekeeping system. This clock movement, developed by Paul Gerber, is regarded as a horological masterpiece, combining precision, complexity and artistic beauty in equal measure. 18kt Yellow Gold, translucent enamel on guilloché ground, opalescent blue and royal blue celestial sky, 492 brilliant-cut diamonds (total 11.48ct, G VS), sapphires, rock crystal, onyx, rose quartz, gold-leaf stars, enamelled zodiac disc. Masterpiece Swiss 8-day Pendulet bridge movement with double going barrel mainspring, swan-neck fine adjustment, and Breguet spiral. Music box mechanism re-worked and integrated by Paul Gerber, Switzerland. As such, VICTOR MAYER continued the tradition of the Fabergé workmaster for twenty years. Today, and while it no longer holds a worldwide exclusive license in respect of jewelry, VICTOR MAYER remains one of Fabergé’s valued and trusted suppliers of certain jewels. About vitreous enamel: The inimitably luminous colours are literally created "in the fire": layer by layer, enamel is carefully fired in at 800 degrees Celsius. During guilloching, the finest wave patterns are engraved into the gold, creating a unique depth effect. Vitreous means made of glass: the ancient technique is almost forgotten today and Victor Mayer is perhaps the last manufactory to master it at the highest level. Availability: This piece of jewelry is in our stock and can be shipped immediately. The Egg Object will be delivered with an original Fabergé box and certificates.

The light blue body of the peacock, and its long swirling light and dark blue tail feathers, have been crafted from intricate guilloché enamel, which is often found on Fabergé style eggs...
