About the Item

These exquisite Georgian shoe buckles with a cut out design were created in the 1st quarter of the 19th century. More than seven hundred facetted steel nails have been riveted onto the metal base plates of buckles. The design shows an oval plaque in the center with a stylized flower motive. The oval centre pieces are joint by four rivets to the outer part of the buckle. The ornaments are decorated with navette shaped steel nails and two different kinds of round steel nails. Base metal fittings to fix the buckles onto the shoes have been riveted to the reverse of the buckle.
