About the Item

This is an antique silver belt buckle from the Jugendstil period, Germany 1890-1914. The buckle is created in 900 silver and it has a beautiful design with rose gold 'serpent teeth'. The piece has a silver carved striped design with two rose gold colored prongs, which represent the 'serpent teeth'. The bottom of the piece reveals a buckle, making it easy to attach to a favorite ribbon or leather belt. Presumably, the belt buckle used to be part of another half, a buckle with a hook. The buckle is beautiful and quite rare. A perfect gift for any Art Nouveau or Jugendstil lover and would make a fantastic addition to any collection. Jugendstil, also known as Art Nouveau, is an art movement that developed in various places in Europe between 1890 and 1914. Jugendstil is a German-Austrian movement. The difference between the French-Belgian Art Nouveau and the German-Austrian Jugendstil lies, among other things, in the smoother, thinner lines of Art Nouveau as opposed to the stricter, more angular style of Jugendstil. The piece is in very good condition and measures 60 millimeters in length and 45 millimeters wide. The buckle has a nice heavy weight of 31.78 grams.. Marked with Crescent, Crown and 900 silver content (90% silver), tested as silver. The buckle will be gift-wrapped in a black and gold jewelry box.
