Mario Buccellati Ring Vintage Coral Silver Gold Estate Jewelry
By Mario Buccellati
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
A Mario Buccellati ring featuring coral, mounted in silver with gold accents. This vintage Buccellati ring centers around an oval-shaped cabochon coral. The coral is bezel set in gold and framed by a raised silver surround that features Buccellati’s signature openwork leaf motif. This intricate texture features small gold bead accents placed around the border. The band is wide and tapers underneath, with just enough weight to balance the size of the setting without feeling bulky. This Buccellati ring, with its tactile metalwork, draws attention to the coral as the centerpiece. It’s a vintage design with a quietly strong presence that does not need to compete for attention. The vintage ring is made of sterling silver, 18 karat yellow gold and features an oval cabochon coral. The coral measures approximately 23.2 x 15.4 x 9.9 mm and weighs approximately 25.3 carats. This vintage coral ring measures 1 1/4" x 1" x 5/8" (3.3 x 2.4 x x 2.2 x 1.5 cm) and weighs 23.5 grams. The ring is size 6.25-6.5 and can be resized. The ring is stamped with Mario Buccellati maker's mark, hallmark for sterling silver. About Buccellati Brand: Mario Buccellati (1891-1965) established the first brand’s store in Milan in 1919. Poet Gabriele D’Annunzio titled Buccellati “the Prince of Goldsmiths” because of jeweler’s extraordinary talent of turning gold and silver into luxury art objects. Through the years this talent has been the core of the Buccellati’s style. In 1966, Gianmaria Buccellati (1929-2015) with his brother, Luca, took over the family business after their father's death. Today the House is led by third- and fourth generation Buccellati, Honorary President and Creative Director Andrea Buccellati and his daughter, Lucrezia Buccellati Wildenstein. Buccellati design is highly recognizable due to multiple engraving and piercing techniques applied to the pieces. Texture of gold recreating the look of Venetian lace, linen and tulle created by handmade Italian techniques inherited through generations. The world of flora and fauna is a big source of inspiration for creating famous Buccellati brooches. Weightless Buccellati butterfly brooch...

About Buckle Symbolism in Jewelry: Buckle design is a classic element in jewelry making. It’s dated as far as the early 1800’s. Perhaps the trend was started by Queen Victoria who was wearing her buckle ring as sign of the Order of the Garter membership. The symbol of the order featured a buckle belt. Also, buckles are designed to connect and fasten things together, making them symbolic of connection. In jewelry it can represent the bond between two people. For bracelets or rings it may be interpreted as a token of commitment or friendship. Belts are often associated with security due to their ability to hold items in place. In jewelry, it’s particularly reflected in designs like chokers where buckles serve both functional and decorative purposes. They can represent personal strength and self-assurance. In some cultures, buckles are seen as protective symbols. The idea is that a buckle can "lock" or "seal" something. In jewelry, buckles might be incorporated into designs to symbolize guarding against negative influences. The symbolism of buckles in jewelry design can vary based on individual preferences. It reflects the wearer's intentions and the context in which it’s worn. About Gübelin Jewelry: Six generations of the family-owned jewelry business and counting. Simultaneously with the first jewelry store opening in 1920s, The House sets up a gemological laboratory to test the stones. It allowed the maker to be sure of the authenticity and offer only the best gems to the clients. This lab operation expanded to the advanced gemological studies since then. Stunning estate Mario Buccellati High Jewelry cabochon opal 18K yellow and patinated white gold spider web cocktail ring Mid 20th Century The large cabochon opal displaying a striking array of colors ranging from turquoise, blue, pink and gold with strong color change qualities, appearing more intense at night and against dark backgronds and lighter in daylight. The gem is set in a finely detailed yellow gold setting which forms a spider web design against a textured patinated white gold background. The name opal is believed to derive from the Sanskrit "upala", which means precious stone, as well as the Greek "opallios". Historically, opals were very rare and highly prized as a result. Napoleon I presented a fabulous opal called The Burning of Troy to Josephine, the first opal to be named. Elizabeth II received the Andalooka Opal, known as The Queen's Opal on her state visit to Australia. In the Middle Ages, opal were considered powerful talismans due to their color spectrum- they were believed to possess the virtue of every gemstone whose color was represented in the opal.
