Vintage Aquamarine Ring in 18K White Gold with Filigree, approx 2.19 carats
About the Item
Elegant flower blossoms and unusually pretty filigree. set off the lovely Aquamarine in this ring. While Edwardian to Art Deco in style, I believe it was likely made later, from the 1940's to 1950's.
Crafted of 18K white gold, the ring features a sizable marquise cut aquamarine with icy blue color and wonderful sparkle. (it's hard to capture the color and sparkle in photos, though I have done my best with different lighting. Please note the color may appear a bit differently on your screen) The shoulders of the ring have dainty flower blossom details, and the filigree setting also has flower like detail. I estimate the aquamarine to weigh approximately 2.19 carats, or so.
Measuring approximately 17.5 x 8.9 mm, the aquamarine has lovely proportions, good clarity and a cut that makes it wonderfully sparkly. The color is a pale icy blue that reflects light so well. It's in very good vintage condition with light wear seen only with magnification, and has a great presence on the hand; the rise off the finger is approximately 5.2 mm.
Each raised shoulder has 5 orange blossom style flowers , and a bit of the original milgrain that extends all the way up into the tab style prongs. One tab style prong has a hairline that looks like it has either been repaired or doesn't go all the way through. (this can be seen in macro photo #4) It may need attention at some point in the near future.
The filigree gallery is very feminine and pretty, edged along the top with round elements that evoke flowers; it remains in good condition.
Slender by design, the band shows slight signs of having been sized under magnification. Inside is a mark of "MG18K" or perhaps its "MC18K." On my scale the finished weight is 3 grams.
Currently fitting me as a size 5.5 or slightly larger, it registers as a 5.254 on my sizing mandrel. It can be sized up or down a bit by a good jeweler. If it is sized up, I would expect more gold to be added at the back.
