"Capella" Ring with Sleeping Beauty Turquoise in Textured Yellow Gold
About the Item
This abstract and unusual ring was designed, set and finished by Eytan Brandes. It features a triangular cabochon of genuine Sleeping Beauty Turquoise on a bezel platform rising from a gorgeous tapered band in 14K yellow gold. The band has a lustrous brushed satin finish over which Eytan has used a drill to create a subtle craquelure effect.
The turquoise is matrix-free but shows a few tiny shadow flaws on the front and more general flaws in back. We purchased the raw rock for this cabochon from Trade Roots, a turquoise dealer in New Mexico. Trade Roots guarantees it to be untreated and to be genuine -- i.e., it's part of a hoard of genuine Sleeping Beauty Turquoise extracted from the eponymous mine in Globe, Arizona before it shut down in 2012.*
The bottom edge of the band is slightly angled while the top edge angles up quite dramatically to reach the bezel, creating a height on your finger of almost an inch. It tapers to a comfortable 3/16" in the back. The ring is resizable and resizing is complimentary down to size 4 and up to size 9.
The ring is polished to a mirror shine on the inside. It is signed "Eytan" by Eytan Brandes and stamped "14K."
The total weight of the ring is 9.4 grams of which 0.7 grams (3.5 carats) can be attributed to the turquoise.
*The mine has reopened but supplies of matrix-free stone are dwindling and authentic, untreated stones remain expensive and hard-to-find.
