Helios, in Greek mythology, is the god of the sun and is often depicted as driving a chariot across the sky, bringing light to the world. He is a significant figure in the pantheon of Greek deities, and his name is derived from the Greek word for sun, "Helios." According to myth, Helios is the son of the Titans Hyperion and Theia, making him a second-generation Titan. His siblings include Selene, the goddess of the moon, and Eos, the goddess of the dawn. Helios is often described as a handsome and radiant god, with a crown of sun rays adorning his head. One of the most well-known stories involving Helios is the tale of his son Phaeton. In this myth, Phaeton, eager to prove his divine lineage, persuades his father to let him drive the sun chariot for a day. However, Phaeton is unable to control the powerful horses that pull the chariot, and chaos ensues. The earth is scorched, and to prevent further disaster, Zeus strikes Phaeton down with a lightning bolt. Helios is left grief-stricken by the loss of his son. Helios is also associated with the island of Rhodes, where he was particularly revered. The Colossus of Rhodes...

Small Ancient Indus Valley Bead Ring Etched Carnelian Cone Antique Gold Ring
Located in London, GB
A superb and rare ancient Indus Valley etched carnelian bead ring. The conical shaped carnelian gemstone in the centre dates from the middle of the third millennium BC. Deep orange in colour with white patterned etchings, these beads originate from the Indus Valley civilisation (parts of modern day Pakistan and India). These carnelian beads were alkaline-bleached to develop the geometric white patterns visible on the exterior. The technique was first developed by the Harappans of the Indus Valley civilisation, and vast quantities have been found in archaeological sites all across the Indus Valley. The conical stone has been set in a later high-karat gold ring mount, the hoop is hollow and of circular cross section which widens towards the bezel. This design and shape is typical of ancient gold rings...

Giovanni & Luigi Pichler 1790 Rare Agate Carved Intaglio of Mercury in 14kt Gold
Located in Miami, FL
Important carved intaglio ring by Giovanni or Luigi Pichler (1773-1854). An extremely rare intaglio seal piece, created in Rome Italy by the Pichler's Atelier in the late early 18th century, circa 1795. It was carved in an oval cabochon cut shape, from a triple layered translucent bluish agate. The intaglio seal depicts the naked figure of the Roman goddess Mercury, in running flying position to the right with a helmet and winged sandals. Raising his left hand and holding a trophy with the right hand. A butterfly or flying insect at the right. Signed, Pichler in Greek (ΠΙΧΛΕΡ), for Giovanni or Luigi Pichler (1773-1854). This seal has been made after the famous Flying Mercury (Mercure volant) statue, created by the mannerist sculptor Giambologna (Giovanni da Bologna 1524-1608), a Flemish-Italian sculptor that work all his life mostly in Florence in Italy. One of the versions of the actual sculpture is located at the Bargello Museum in Florence Italy and the other at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Antique and Vintage Signet Rings for Sale on 1stDibs: Shop Gold Signet Rings, Diamond Signet Rings and Other Signet Rings

Traditionally considered a ring for men, a vintage signet ring is a popular gift today for anyone who desires an expressive, timeless piece of jewelry that can feature all manner of engraved motifs, gemstones, specific symbols or monograms.

Whether it's an antique gold signet ring, diamond signet ring or some other classic iteration, signet rings get their name from signus, which means “sign” in Latin.

These rings, which may historically be referred to as “seal rings,” date back thousands of years and were used as a form of signature. Whatever may have been engraved on the ring — a married couple’s initials, a family crest — identified ownership for the purposes of authenticating documents and more when impressed on soft wax. During the Middle Ages, signet rings were symbols of power and prestige and common accessories for nobility. Later, during the 19th century, precious and semiprecious stones such as rubies and diamonds were added to gold signet rings as they took on a more ornate appearance than they had previously.

In recent years, fashion has been primarily about individuality, and nothing is more personal than a jewel bearing a name or monogram. That is the reason jewelers have revived traditional signet rings, custom-engraving their designs with customers’ preferred words or symbols. Those who prefer the thrill of the hunt have a range of vintage letter charms and pendants to sift through.

And it isn't all about men's signet rings anymore, either — the accessory is for everyone. Princess Diana wore a signet ring that was a gift from Charles before their wedding, and we all know that the royals are top-tier fashion influencers, especially when it comes to rings.

Find vintage diamond signet rings, onyx signet rings and other types of rings on 1stDibs.
