Signet Intaglio Ring with heraldic depiction of a Coat of Arms on Carnelian stone. Mural Wall on the shield under the crown of Nobility, likely Russian of noble family. Very well done / hand carved work of a Mural Wall - it makes a fine impression on anything soft enough like beeswax. Band and crown made of solid 18K Rose Gold. This ring was ordered in Helsinki, Finland for a man in ca. XIX century when Finland was still a part of the Russian Empire. Set of worn hallmarks of Russian Grand Duchy of Finland : crown and 18K. Year combination is rather worn, I presume it is P4 / 1896, but not sure about that. It can be older, such signet design was common in northern Europe and Russia since late XVIII - early XIX century. Crown of the ring measures 18 mm x 15 mm x 6mm deep. The body of the Carnelian stone is dark Orange measuring 15 mm x 11 x 3 mm deep / ca. 7 ct. Size: Ø 9.75 US / 19.62 mm. It was sized before and can be sized up or down again for additional payment. Weight: 4 grams In fine used condition, stone with micro scratches on its surface. Minor deformation of the band. Footnotes : Most of the noble families represented in Finland of XIX century were of Swedish and Russian origin. Before the Finnish War 1808-1809, the Finnish nobility were natives of Sweden and full members of the Swedish nobility and the Swedish House of Nobility for centuries. Finland was conquered from Sweden by Imperial Russia, and after that some representatives of Russian and other European nobility families who earlier immigrated to Russia settled on its territory. The estate of nobility existed fully starting from the 1809 Diet of Porvoo when the Grand Duchy of Finland was formally created. The Finnish nobility was formally organized in 1818. I failed to find any mentioning of any Swedish family with such a coat of arms design of such a Mural Wall in the literature, thus I presume this coat of arms may be Russian or of other European family associated with / or immigrated to former Russian Imperial territories. > Most of the items that we sell are not new at all if not stated otherwise.
