Nice Market by Robert Savary (French 1920-2000) signed lower right oil painting on canvas, unframed canvas: 19.75 x 19.75 inches Superb Post-Impressionist oil painting by the very well listed and highly sought after French painter, Robert Savary (1920-2000). The painting shows the famous Cours Saleya in Nice....which is the location for the famous flea market that happens there every week, as well as the fish and flower market too. Just yards from the blue sea of the Mediterranean, I can heartily recommend it! Incidentally, we bought this painting from a private home in Nice. Figurative artist, Robert Savary is part of the New School of Paris . He was a student of Maurice Brianchon at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris, and won the prize of Casa de Velázquez in 1948. Savary won the Prix de Rome in 1950. He taught in 1957 at the Regional School of Fine Arts Rouen (which he became the honorary director) while living in Paris and spending summers in Collioure, in the South of France. Medieval Castle on a Cliff by the Sea on North Coast of Ireland by Irish Artist
Located in Preston, GB
Medieval Castle on a Cliff by the Sea on North Coast of Ireland by 20th Century Irish Artist, John Wright. An impressionistic impasto original oil painting of Dunce Castle, used in Game of Thrones. Art measures 24 x 18 inches Frame measures 34 x 28 inches This vibrant painting captures the dramatic beauty of a rugged coastal scene, dominated by an ancient castle perched atop a rocky cliff. The artist's dynamic brushwork and bold use of color bring the landscape to life, with the turquoise and blue hues of the sea contrasting against the warm, sunlit rocks and castle walls. The swirling water and textured rocks in the foreground add depth and movement, making the scene both captivating and lively. Encased in a classic gold-trimmed frame, this artwork is a striking piece that will add a touch of historical grandeur and natural beauty to any space. Dunluce Castle is a now-ruined medieval castle in Northern Ireland, the seat of Clan MacDonnell. It is located on the edge of a basalt outcropping in County Antrim and is accessible via a bridge connecting it to the mainland. The castle is surrounded by extremely steep drops on either side, which may have been an important factor to the early Christians and Vikings who were drawn to this place where an early Irish fort once stood. Dunluce is one of the most picturesque and romantic of Irish Castles. With evidence of settlement from the first millennium, the present castle ruins date mainly from the 16th and 17th Centuries. It was inhabited by both the feuding McQuillan and MacDonnell clans. Richard Óg de Burgh, 2nd Earl of Ulster, built the first castle at Dunluce, In the 13th century. The earliest features of the castle are two large drum towers about 9 metres (30 ft) in diameter on the eastern side, both relics of a stronghold built here by the McQuillans after they became lords of the "an Rúta" (territory) in the early 1500s. Later Dunluce Castle became the home of the chief of the Clan MacDonnell of Antrim and later John Mor MacDonald the 6th chief Clan Donald of Scotland. In 1584 with the passing off John Mor MacDonald, the Antrim Glens and Castle were seized by Sorley Boy MacDonnell, making it the seat again solely of the MacDonnell Clan. Sorley Boy took the castle, keeping it for himself and improving it in the Scottish style. Sorley Boy swore allegiance to the crown and his son Randal was made 1st Earl of Antrim by King James I. The Girona, a galleass (Ship) from the Spanish Armada, was wrecked in a storm on the rocks at Lacada Point on the night of 26 October 1588. Cannons from the ship were installed in the gatehouses and the rest of the cargo sold, funding restoration of the castle. Dunluce Castle served as the seat of the Earl of Antrim until the impoverishment of the MacDonnells in 1690, following the Battle of the Boyne...

RICHARD THORN R.I. (1952-) Original fine Seascape Modern British Watercolour
Located in Cirencester, GB
Please note - we do not post with glass. Glass is removed carefully before packaging and sending. It's a simple process to slide a new piece in on arrival and saves the potential for the work to get damaged in the post. ARTIST: Richard Thorn R.I.. SWAC (1952-) British TITLE: "Forces Of Nature" SIGNED: lower right MEDIUM: watercolour on paper SIZE: 72cm x 68cm inc frame CONDITION: excellent DETAIL: Born in Devon, the countryside continues to have an influence on his work, particularly coastal scenes, the moors, and rivers. Richard is an intuitive and spontaneous artist whose work retains the atmosphere of a deep love of the seasons and the locations.Since those early days his paintings have been sold and exhibited in many leading galleries throughout the UK, as well as America, Taiwan, and South Korea, and are held in many private collections. His work has been accepted at the Royal Institute’s (for painters in watercolour) open exhibitions, where he has won awards for best watercolour. He was also invited to participate in the Quingdao International Watercolour Exhibition 2019 where he won an excellent work award. Art Promoters in China exhibit his work and in 2020 he returned to demonstrate and exhibit. Light, texture, and distance are his principal concerns. These elements predominate his subject matter. There is a constant search for new techniques toward those goals. “...For me, painting is a continuum – an exploration. But watercolour is a medium that seems to be always one step ahead” History: 1952 Born Torquay, Devon 1957 Started to paint during a hospital stay, aged 5 Continued to draw and paint throughout his childhood Frequent family visits to Dartmoor and the Devon coast encouraged the pursuit On leaving school attended Newton Abbot School of Art Early influences centred around the French Impressionists, especially Cézanne, Monet, Pissarro & Gauguin 1971 Started Rock/blues/jazz career Still plays in a Bossanova jazz quartet called “Ragged Fish” 1985 Returned to painting to establish a professional career working in watercolour Added influences include Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth 1986 Princess Michael of Kent took a liking to one of Richard’s paintings exhibited at the Torbay Arts Society, with which she was presented Exhibitions 1992 First solo show in Godalming Many subsequent mixed and solo exhibitions at nearby locations including Fowey River Gallery, Fowey; Triton Gallery, Torquay; Sharon Davies Gallery, Totnes; Rosemoor Gallery, North Devon, and further field with the Bourne Gallery, Reigate: Panter & Hall, London and The Portuguese Embassy, London. 2008 Included in a book of contemporary Devon artists published by Hallsgrove 2009/10 Solo exhibitions at John Davies Gallery, Moreton-in-Marsh 2010 Solo exhibition at Torre Abbey, Torquay: Solo exhibition Alexander Gallery 2011 Group exhibition Davidson Fine Art Gallery, Totnes 2013 Salthouse Gallery, St Ives, Cornwall: John Davies Gallery, Moreton-in-Marsh: Spring Exhibition, Joan Gillespie...
