Antique Art Nouveau Ceramic Table or Mantel Clock with Bronze Flower Sculptures
Located in Lisse, NL
Rare and stunning majolica glazed antique clock from the European Art Nouveau era. If you like rare Arts & Crafts antiques in general and marvelous clocks in particular then this handcrafted table clock from circa 1900-1910 could be the perfect addition to your collection / interior. When you understand how many difficult and time consuming techniques it took to create this antique work of time telling art, will you really be able to appreciate its beauty, rarity and quality. First of all, it would have taken a designer several days, if not weeks, to hand draw this design and this would take multiple sketches. Secondly, a ceramics specialist created the perfectly shaped and glazed majolica 'clock house'. This requires glazing and heating/'baking' in the keln and there too many things can go wrong. Thirdly, the aesthetically beautiful flower sculptures that you now see in gilt bronze, would first have to be sculpted out of clay or another material. From that initial sculpture a mold would have to be made and that mold would then be filled with extremely hot liquid bronze. The bronze sculpture would then have to be sanded, polished and gilt. Fourthly, in both the glazed ceramic clock house and the bronze flowers...

Stunning Antique Hallway or Stairwell Pendant w. Four Bronze Ram Head Sculptures
Located in Lisse, NL
Rare and highly stylish, gilt bronze and glass entry hall fixture. In the earliest days of electric lighting, designers worked closely together with artists & artisans and together they created some of the most beautiful light fixtures made in the history of mankind. For creating these 'works of lighting art' they used some of the most expensive materials and some of the most expensive methods. One of the reasons why such very expensive light fixtures could be made, was, because the potential buyers were mostly people who lived in the largest and most expensive of homes. This gilt bronze and cut glass pendant would have been made for an entry hall with a high ceiling and it would be mounted in the centre of a ceiling rose. The unique combination of gilt bronze ornaments and a stunning cut glass shade, makes this antique pendant an absolute joy to own and look at. This handsome and completely original antique pendant, has rams heads and guirlandes all around the shade, a crown-like gallery on top and leafs and a bronze pineapple underneath. All these antique style elements symbolize something, but with regards to this hallway pendant we particularly like the symbolic meaning of the pineapple, because to many Europeans in the new world they symbolized friendship and hospitality. So much so that families would hang pineapples outside their homes to perfume the entryway and make it welcoming to guests. This striking antique pendant too is wired for safe and immediate usage the world over. If you like the rarity, quality, beauty and the deeper meaning of this antique hallway...

Mint Condition Heavy Bronze Boxer / Price Fighter Sculpture by Jef Lambeaux
By Jef Lambeaux
Located in Lisse, NL
Powerful bronze sculpture of an athletic and ripped fighter. This sizable and heavy work of art is as beautiful as the day it was handcrafted. Belgian sculptor Jef Lambeaux (1852-1908) had a penchant for capturing the human physique in motion, with sports and erotic scenes as his favourite subject matters. Since he grew up in the second half of the 19th century, he may very well have seen actual price fighters going at each other in boxing matches. This powerful bronze male boxer in full action is just about to launch an inside right whilst protecting his own head with his left arm and right shoulder. His square jaw line and rugged facial features give us the impression that he is as hard they come. The incredibly well developed muscles in his back and legs confirm that notion as well. The stunning patina accentuates the muscular physique of this bronze fighter and he looks marvelous from all angles. Image 13 shows an interesting detail that you don't find in many bronzes. Here you can see that samples were taken from the bottom of the base to determine whether this bronze had the right composition and strength. It clearly passed the test, because otherwise it would have been destroyed. This sizable and heavy bronze fighter with its perfectly captured fighting posture makes a great statement piece on a desk or side table. Our price for this rare and mint bronze boxer...

Statuette of the Goddess Neith
Located in London, GB
Bronze statue of the goddess Neith, striding, her left foot extended forward. Her left hand is extended forward and formally held a papyrus sceptre, a fragmentary ankh is visible in her right hand. She wears a close-fitting sheath dress, incised with a broad usekh collar, and carefully engraved bracelets and armlets. On her head is the Red Crown of Lower Egypt, decorated with vertical striations and restored spiral and spire. Her face is finely molded, with a broad upturned nose and electrum-overlaid eyes and eyebrows. Neith was one of the earliest recorded gods in the Egyptian pantheon, worshipped from early in the Predynastic era through to the arrival of Roman rule. A war goddess and goddess of weaving, she was the patron goddess of the Red Crown of Lower Egypt and the city of Zau (Sais, in the 5th Nome of Lower Egypt) in the Delta. A powerful and popular goddess, she was, according to the Iunyt (Esna) cosmology, the creator of the world and the mother of the sun, Ra. This made her the mother of all of the gods, who often came to her to settle their disputes. Her symbols are the bow and arrows and a sword and shield as a war goddess, a weaving shuttle as a funerary goddess, and the Red Crown of Lower Egypt as the goddess of creation and mother goddess. She is usually depicted as a woman wearing the Red Crown of Lower Egypt, however, she is occasionally depicted as a cow in connection with her role as the mother of Ra. The use of electrum, a naturally occurring alloy of gold and silver sometimes called ‘green-gold’, for the eyes speaks to the high status of the object. Electrum had been used by the Egyptians since at least the 3rd millennium B.C., but, give its rarity, was reserved for the most expensive and important objects. Most electrum used in Egypt was imported from Nubia, though some was found there. Published: Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, February 25th, 1971, no. 70, illus. Sotheby’s, New York, June 5th, 1999, no. 31, illus. David Aaron Ltd...
