WALL STREET, German Conceptual artist, biting social commentary, Signed, Framed
By Martin Kippenberger
Located in New York, NY
Scarce framed European work by this renowned German conceptual artist - rarely found stateside Martin Kippenberger Wall Street, 1993 Color lithograph and offset lithograph on board Hand signed and dated lower right front Stamped on the back with the publisher's blind stamp, artist, title, year, edition 100/E.A. Stamped on the back with the publisher's blind stamp, artist, title, year, edition 100/E.A. (Note: this is designated as Epreuve D'Artiste (EA), an artist's proof aside from the regular edition of 100. It was based upon an original collage by the artist. However, it appears the only examples of this edition that have ever come to the public market are also Artist's Proofs (EA's). (The regular edition was said to be included in the European portfolio JFK.) Scarce! Published by the 'Politischer Club Colonia für Studien und Aktionen zum Frieden, e.V.', Cologne (for studies and peace activities) Provenance: The Chara Schreyer Collection (renowned philanthropist Cara Schreyer was considered on of the top art collectors in the world) Frame included: Elegantly floated and framed in a handmade wood museum frame under Optium plexiglass Measurements: Framed 24 inch vertical by 25.5 inches horizontal by 1.5 Artwork: 21.5 inches (vertical) by 23.5 inches (horizontal) Accompanied by gallery issued Certificate of Guarantee Kippenberger's Wall Street is full of biting social commentary about American society. In addition to the brazen text references (such as "I Love Peace and Money") and the title (Wall Street), it also depicts American artist Robert Gober's famous "Hanging Man/Sleeping Man: (in the permanent collection of the Hammer Museum). "Gober’s Hanging Man/Sleeping Man has become a touchstone of American art made during the political and social upheavals of the late 1980s and early 1990s, which included the AIDS epidemic, the culture wars, and the Los Angeles riots. The work features two images side by side, one of a sleeping white man in bed...

Everything's Going to be Alright (Work No. 3531), Signed/N print in archival box
By Martin Creed
Located in New York, NY
Martin Creed Everything's Going to be Alright (Work No. 3531), 2022 Color giclee print; unframed and housed in a bespoke archival box from Hauser & Wirth 11 3/4 × 16 1/2 inches Pencil signed, titled and numbered 141/200 Makes a perfect gift! Accompanied by original receipt from the Fife Arms (Beaemar) and gallery issued Certificate of Guarantee A wonderful print with an affirmation worth seeing in any room in the house! Note: this work is pencil signed and numbered from the limited edition of 200, and it comes inside of a bespoke box, as it was first issued by Hauser & Wirth. The number shown in the image here may not be the number you receive. In 2020, as part of the post-lockdown re-opening celebrations for Scotland's Fife Arms, Hauser & Wirth's owners unveiled a specially commissioned temporary neon installation, ‘Work No. 3435: EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT’ by one of their favorite artists, Turner Prize-winner Martin Creed. This colorful installation was situated on the grounds of nearby Braemar Castle. The message resonates well beyond the pandemic. It makes a terrific gift. (Martin Creed, who grew up in Glasgow, is particularly known in Scotland for the much-loved Scotsman Steps in Edinburgh, a public staircase joining two streets made with more than a hundred different types of marble. A work in blue neon, ‘Work No. 975: EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT’, has been on view since 2012 on the facade of the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh. The phrase ‘Everything is going to be alright’ has been used by the artist in a series of large-scale neon works since 1999 and draws on the comforting words Creed was offered by a friend. He explains, “If you are upset and someone speaks to you to try to help you, even if the words are empty because no one knows what is going to happen in the future, it can still feel like a comfort. No-one can really tell you everything is going to be alright, but despite that, many times in my life I have been very comforted by people saying something like that to me.”) And all this brings us back to the present work, a limited edition 2022 color giclee print, pencil signed and numbered by Martin Creed, which depicts Creed's pandemic-era temporary light installation with the neon words Everything is Going to Be Alright, against the backdrop of Braemar Castle at nightfall. This edition was originally sold by Hauser & Wirth via the Fife Arms to raise funds to restore Braemar Castle - and it quickly sold out. It's a poignant message that continues to resonate, perhaps now more than ever - and it would look beautiful in any home or office. But the question remains: Should we really believe Martin Creed's message? The answer is a resounding Yes. Coming from some of the most successful and lucky people on earth (Martin Creed and Manuela and Iwan Wirth) and carrying the magical energy and history of Braemar Castle, the odds are looking pretty good that everything is indeed going to be alright with all that positivity! By the way, just for fun (because why not?) keep scrolling (right arrow to the right of the main image) to view a 2019 photograph of King Charles and Queen Camilla (then officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when in Scotland) attending the opening of The Fife Arms, with Manuela and Iwan Wirth standing next to them on the left - all in Highland dress. More about Martin Creed: British sculptor and installation artist. He was born in Wakefield, grew up in Scotland, and studied at the *Slade School of Art. His works are generally sparse in their material form and are identified only by numbers so as not to impose associations. (For this reason his numbering system avoids the portentous No. 1.) He is best known for the work for which he was awarded the *Turner Prize in 2002, Work no. 227 (2000, MoMA, New York). An entire room is alternately lit and darkened by electric light. It is a way of making a work of art which has no material existence: the light and the darkness are not themselves the art, only the change between them. This is a work which has entered the mythology of ‘modern art’ stories: the river boat guide tells the tourists (quite incorrectly) as they pass *Tate Modern: about the empty room...

Postcard signed, inscribed by Robert Indiana about his portrait at Coenties Slip
By Robert Indiana
Located in New York, NY
Robert Indiana "My portrait was taken on Coenties Slip"...., 1993 Handwritten letter on an offset lithograph postcard Boldly signed in black marker under the letter 4 2/5 × 7 3/5 inches Unframed Unique one-of-a-kind hand written, hand signed note from Robert Indiana, dated 23 VII '93, written on the postcard depicting Robert Indiana's work "Mother and Father", published by the Farnsworth Museum in Maine. The note, done in black marker, is addressed to Don Allan II of Barrington, N.H. and reads" "DON - MY PORTRAIT IF YOU DO NOT KNOW, WAS TAKEN ON COENTIES SLIP IN NYC". Robert Indiana then signs the note.. (Presumably, the reply is in response to a letter or question this fan sent to the artist asking where Indiana's portrait was taken). Makes a great gift for Robert Indiana fans! Coenties Slip is a historic artist's address in the New York art scene - there was even a book written about it! Coenties Slip is a street in the Financial District of Manhattan in New York City. It runs southeast for two blocks in Lower Manhattan from Pearl Street to South Street. A walkway runs an additional block north from Pearl Street to Stone Street Here's an excerpt from Art in America reviewing the book: "How does specificity of place play a role in art, enough to become more figure than ground, less a context than a character? This is one of the larger questions framing art historian Prudence Peiffer’s momentous new survey The Slip: The New York City Street That Changed American Art Forever. The book vividly documents a moment in the 1950s and ’60s when a cast of artists settled, at staggered intervals, in a three-block area around Coenties Slip, a street on Manhattan’s lower tip. Coenties Slip borrowed its name from one of the “slips”—inlets for the docking and repairing of boats—that once cut sharply into New York’s downtown waterfront, facilitating the busy circulation of fish, freight, and sailors between land and sea. While New York’s status as a maritime trading hub lured fleets of boats, it was the skeletal remains of that activity, by then sharply diminished, that drew artists to Coenties Slip. In place of industry, they found vast and vacant loft spaces, cheap to rent, in which they could both work and live (illegally, owing to zoning laws)....Peiffer’s book arrives nearly 50 years after the earliest attempt to honor the Slip: the 1974 exhibition “Nine Artists/Coenties Slip,” organized for an old downtown branch of the Whitney Museum on Water Street nearby. The exhibition showcased lesser-known inhabitants of the Slip, including Fred Mitchell (the first to settle there), Ann Wilson...

From the estate of Jacob and Aviva Bal Teshuva - authors of books on Christo, collectors, philanthropists and friends of the artist. Provenance Estate of Aviva and Jacob Bal-Teshuva ABOUT THE PONT NEUF WRAPPED PROJECT: On September 22, 1985, a group of 300 professional workers completed the temporary work of art The Pont Neuf Wrapped. They had deployed 450,000 square feet (41,800 square meters) of woven polyamide fabric, silky in appearance and golden sandstone in color, covering: The sides and vaults of the twelve arches, without hindering river traffic. The parapets down to the ground. The sidewalks and curbs (pedestrians walked on the fabric). All the street lamps on both sides of the bridge. The vertical part of the embankment of the western tip of the Île de la Cité. The Esplanade of the Vert-Galant. The fabric was restrained by 8 miles (13 kilometers) of rope and secured by 12.1 tons of steel chains encircling the base of each tower, 3.3 feet (1 meter) underwater. The Charpentiers de Paris headed by Gérard Moulin, with French sub-contractors, were assisted by the USA engineers who had worked on Christo and Jeanne-Claude's previous projects, under the direction of Theodore Dougherty: Vahé Aprahamian, August L. Huber, James Fuller, John Thomson and Dimiter Zagoroff. Johannes Schaub, the project's director had submitted the work method and detailed plans and received approval for the project from the authorities of the City of Paris, the Department of the Seine and the State. 600 monitors, in crews of 40, led by Simon Chaput...
