Signed and inscribed top Signed lower left in plate Best known as the cartoonist for the New York Post’s Page Six from 1990 to 2013. His cartoons are currently syndicated by CagleCartoons and appear worldwide. An award winning painter and illustrator, his work has appeared in the nation's largest newspapers, magazines, books, television and Broadway. Sean's work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian - National Museum of American History, the Library of Congress, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Newseum, the Cartoon Art Museum, New York Historical Society Museum and Library, the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum, appeared in shows at National Museum of Health and Medicine, the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Concord Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art. In 2009, his cartoons led to worldwide media attention and the largest protest against the New York Post in it's 200+ yr history with many politicians calling for his arrest. Sean's cartoons linking Freddy Ferrer to Al Sharpton "helped decide the 2001 mayoral race" ( New York magazine, March 21-28, 2005) and were mentioned in the NYC Democrat mayoral candidate's concession speech (November 7, 2001). In 2018, New Mexico’s entire congressional delegation condemned Sean for an immigration cartoon based on Trump's State of the Union speech that appeared in the Albuquerque Journal. (New York Times, 02/08/18) A sold out one man art show at the Limner Gallery led to his largest commission -- creating the altar painting for the Church of St. Agnes in NYC. Many of his friends at the NY Post, were the models for this painting. Together with his son, is the author of Scuttle's Big Wish (ReganBooks/HarperCollins 2006 and Scholastic Books 2007) and, Sean Delonas: The Ones They Didn't Print, (Skyhorse Publishing, 2015). Interiors IV : Hotel Paradise Cafe
By Peter Milton
Located in New York, NY
“INTERIORS IV : HOTEL PARADISE” Contemporary artist Peter Milton created this etching and engraving in 1987. The printed Image size is 24 x 35.50 inches and the paper size is 30.75 x 41.75 inches. This impression is signed, dated, and titled in pencil, and inscribed “84/175” – the 84th impression of an edition of 175 pieces. “I do love to draw. I feel that I am being granted membership in the Brotherhood of Merlin, conjuring forth some apparition. As a drawing develops, I sense a vague presence coming more and more into focus, something in a white fog emerging and becoming increasingly palpable.” – P. Milton, “The primacy of touch. The Drawings of Peter Milton” “Working in layers, Milton begins with drawings based on people and places, with nods to Western art history and culture. He is a master of the appropriated image, a term that may conjure Andy Warhol and his Pop Art comrades. But Milton steps further back in history, avoiding the Pop sense of cool advertising and popular culture references. Instead, a broader cultural past is tapped through historical photographs of key players, architecture, and locales, which he reinvents by hand. He adds content drawn from his life as an avid reader – always with multiple possible interpretations – thus incorporating deeper meaning in his cinematic worlds. Elements of Greek mythology, classical music, art history, and history coalesce in his images, which embrace the messiness, sorrow, and elation that is life. One is hard-pressed to imagine a more erudite, skilled, passionate, and cheeky soul.” – T. L. Johnson and A. Shafer Peter Milton was born in Pennsylvania in 1930. He studied for two years at the Virginia Military Institute...

Scroll images for a photograph of our director Nadine Witkin with the artist. Below is Peter Halley's official biography. What it doesn't mention is that Andy Warhol famously painted his portrait in 1986! Peter Halley is that legendary. According to Halley, he didn't realize until after Warhol's death that the polaroids Warhol took of him with his famous "big shot" camera were made into an original painting. Warhol's painting of Peter Halley was included in the recent Andy Warhol retrospective...
