"Red Harmony" Abstract, Geometric, Colors, Bright Red, Green
By William Antonow
Located in Detroit, MI
SALE ONE WEEK ONLY "Red Harmony" is an abstract painting that does have a sculptural presence in the shapes of the red areas. The lush greens blend various shades into a background that while it does contrast sharply with the reds, it is not in conflict. The overall effect of this work is dynamic in its energy while at the same time harmonious. One of the original Cass Corridor artists from the 1960s William Antonow studied at the School of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts (now the College for Creative Studies) and at Wayne State University, where he received his BFA (1967) and MA (1970.) Antonow’s first one-person show at the Willis Gallery in 1971, represented a radical departure from his early work – abstract bronzes shown at the Michigan Artists exhibitions at the Detroit Institute of Arts in 1969 and 1970. A founding member of the Willis, Antonow publicized his exhibition with a cryptic invitation stating, “art isn’t anything.” Echoing the challenge implicit in the exhibition announcement, the works in the show consisted of precariously balanced piles of such non-art materials as wood crates and barrels, corrugated paper or cardboard, cellophane and beer cans. These brash, paint-slathered juxtapositions of salvaged objects were perhaps the first example of the nascent “tough art” aesthetic of the Cass Corridor. (Both Gordon Newton’s wood constructions and Bob Sestok’s crude “radio wheels” first appeared in 1972.) In 1975, in the inaugural group exhibition of the Willis at its new location in the Fisher Building...

"Step" Abstraction Matisse Quality Chartreuse/Turquoise, Playful/Sophisticated
By Margo Margolis
Located in Wellesley, MA
This abstraction by NY based artist Margo Margolis has a very sophisticated/playful sensibility with brilliant, intense color (chartreuse, turquoise, pink, green, red, gray, black and white), the significant attribute of the artist's flashe medium, a water based French paint. Consisting of multiple layers of underpainting and glazing, and frequent contrasts between hard and soft edges, these paintings not only have associations with Henri Matisse's palette and Alexander Calder's sculptural forms, but also share in these artists' complexities after initial straightforward first takes. Fresh and intelligent exploration into the possibilities for abstraction are Margolis's focus and these works achieve that rare quality of making abstraction feel new. Margo Margolis "Step" 2022 Flashe on Canvas 40 x 32 x 1.25 Inches This painting is unframed and framing is not necessary as the sides are painted white. To achieve accuracy for color some of the detail photographs shown below cause the background to appear slightly too gray. It is currently on view in an exhibition of the artist's work in Wellesley, MA where it is featured in a group of works of varying sizes, small, medium, and large: 24 x 20 inches, 40 x 32 inches, 72 x 60 inches, and works on paper measuring 30 x 22 inches. Also available are a series of earlier small canvases measuring 14 x 11 inches each which also work well as groupings. Margolis’s continuing commitment to abstract painting dates back to the early 1970s when she began exhibiting with the Brooke Alexander Gallery...

'Meme Money 007: Green Goochi, ' by XVALA, Mixed Media Painting
By XVALA
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
In this mixed media 24"x24" painting, 'Meme Money 007: Green Goochi,' by XVALA, the artist colorfully plays with the 'Gucci' brand in tandem with the childhood cartoon series, SpongeBob. SpongeBob, as a green 'Goochi Sponge,' takes center stage with a green letter pattern on the canvas background. The work is a screen print with additional painting and iridescent oil stick by the artist with predominant colors of green and gold. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His 'Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and No Delete used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...

"Velveteen, " Abstract Painting
By Teodora Guererra
Located in Westport, CT
green, lime, white, simple, chic, movement, clouds, bold, atmosphere, relaxation, calm, swirl, iridescent, sky, influence: Pat Steir, contemporary, abstract Teodora Guererra’s abstract artistic vision has evolved throughout her years spent painting and teaching in Fairfield County, Connecticut; Tucson, Arizona, and upstate New York. Arizona’s naturally radiant landscape and arid climate led her to experiment with rich under-painting and vivid color; while the shifting seasons of the East Coast inspired Guererra to pursue dripping and staining techniques. Her focus has always been pushing the limits through experimentation with new materials. “As an artist, painting can be tormenting and sublime at the same time. I'm a big risk taker, experimenting with different materials to layer, stain and saturate color on large canvases. My most successful work achieves a sense of fluid movement with saturated color, that is complex yet minimalistic. The end result should be a painting that dances across the canvas and quiets all the noise.” Guererra received her undergraduate and graduate Art degrees from Southern Connecticut University, The College of Saint Rose and Skidmore College. Guererra’s paintings can be found in public and private collections across the U.S., including the Allmen Health and Wellness Center for Women in New York and SUNY Brockport, NY, William & Sonoma, San Francisco, CA. Her influences are Pat Steir, John McCracken, Helen Frankenthaler, Donald Jud, Bernar Venet, Agnes Martin and Brian Rutenberg. ARTIST STATEMENT “Sometimes the few people I see ask, where have you been, and I smile and say I’ve been traveling, because I’ve been in my studio for way too long. I’m a bit of a recluse so you will probably never meet or see me. My paintings are how I see the world. I’m a big risk taker, so the work can be a series of continuous failures until I can work it out. It may start with a memory, like my feet in the warm sand at the shore which becomes the essence at the start. Then as I move my brush in gestural sweeps across the canvas and the painting starts to take shape. I will add and scrap away layers and through this process I will find the final composition, and then, when everything comes together, it’s heaven.” EDUCATION Southern Connecticut State University, BS, Art College of Saint Rose and Skidmore College, MS, Art EXHIBITIONS 2008 Masters Show, Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY 2009 Saratoga Color, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Saratoga Springs, NY 2011 Connections, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2012 Chromacosmo, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2012 Reveal Fall, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2012 Albany Wine & Dine For The Arts, Albany, NY 2012 Albany Center Gallery Masquerade Gala, Albany, NY 2013 Chromacosmo Returns, Sorelle Gallery Fine Art, Albany, NY 2013 Spectrum, Carriage Barn Art...

Jose Palacios, Macrogarden 17, Abstract, Mixed media on paper, 2021
By Jose Palacios
Located in New York, NY
In this original acrylic paint on paper Jose Palacios depicts "Macrogarden 07", in a pop art style. He uses vibrant green, pink and fluorescent yellow shapes to create his composition. Two cartoon like eyes peek out from behind a green brush stroke and a floating cloud is seen in the upper right hand corner.
