Mid Mod Ranch

Family Home by Bishop Studio in Winnetka, IL

Updated for the first time since its construction in 1966, this meticulously preserved ranch embraces its original design by famed architect Don Erickson. A master apprentice and friend of Frank Lloyd Wright, Erickson's work was maintained throughout renovations while being modernized for a young couple with two small children. Though the home's bold design defies the conventional expectations for a growing family, a functional balance was found through Bishop Studio's thoughtful restorations and cozy, fuss-free furnishings.

Honoring Erickson's vision was paramount in bringing the home into the present. Brick paver floors were diamond sanded back to their original coloring and the distinct cedar wall paneling was preserved, complementing the low-pitched roofline throughout. Copper fireplace hoods, seen in both the foyer and great room, remained untouched, serving as striking accents to the space's architectural artistry. Some of Bishop Studio's exceptional design additions include Japanese-inspired kitchen materials, a custom-built dining table seating eighteen, and an Adrian Pearsall semi-circle sectional in its original pink upholstery.
