San Francisco Nob Hill Apartment, 1961

Apartment by BoydDesign in San Francisco, CA

The Comstock Apartment Building is one of the few state-of-the-art classic modernist buildings in San Francisco. Built in 1961, with Eero Saarinen and Le Corbusier as influences, it sits atop the crown of Nob Hill and has commanding views of the entire city and Bay. BoydDesign restored the apartment to its former chic and glamorous state while updating services for contemporary needs. The apartment had undergone many insensitive renovations over the years. BoydDesign was involved in the creation of a restoration committee at the building in order to harvest abandoned original architectural elements from other apartments and storage spaces throughout the building. In going back to the original intent and atmosphere of the architecture and space, a timeless synthesis of vintage and new is achieved. This dynamic combination produces an environment that is entirely fresh and up-to-the-minute--while honoring its historical heritage.
