""This drawing is made with acrylic paint on paper. It shows a gestural blue brushstroke with abstract shapes and some gestural pencil line. At the bottom there is a grey shape showing drapery copied rom a Ghirlandaio painting. My work juxtaposes different styles with fragments of historical painting alongside pure abstraction. This drawing is an example of what I believe my story as an artist to be. It is mainly about the idea of juxtaposition and how each drawing or painting can be a place where different and disparate elements can exist in one place. My work is also about design composition. Often in my work there are large areas of 'absence' of the figure or form.""
About the Artist:
Sian Oblak is an abstract painter living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Oblak's paintings involve examining the visual (spatial) and conceptual construction of the field of painting itself. The way paint has been applied - flat through volume, using symbolism, abstraction, realism….. - every ‘way’ of creating a painting seems viable. This idea is the reason why her paintings contain snatches of pure paint, non referential shapes, alongside rendered forms and shapes from historical paintings. Ms. Oblak makes many different sized paintings that range from large (5 ft x 8 ft) down to very small works 3"" x 5"". The paintings focus on very smooth surfaces and subtle colors in often unnamable hues. Groups of the small paintings hang in her studio representing 'visual conversations', between color, form and content."

Lembo Script M Abstract Art Mark’s dynamic work blurs the distinction between alcohol ink and watercolor - working with dyes, inks, liquid acrylic, liquid watercolor, and other aqueous media; lately, he has been incorporating metallic watercolor and pearlescent ink to his work. He has used canvas, synthetic Yupo™ paper, Yasutomo Mineral Paper, and various watercolor papers. Mark’s journey into the world of creative arts started with the question, “What would Jackson Pollock’s work look like if he had used transparent watercolors?” So, it was out with the pencils, pens, and brushes, and on to the pouring of various aqueous solutions.
