Blue Bather is a watercolor on paper painting, 9 x 6.26" image size, signed ‘HOFMANN’ lower left, and framed in a contemporary, white frame.
Hofmann has remarked that Vermeer was the pinnacle of 17th century painting for him because “the settings, the props, and the figures depicted all had an innate believability.” He has also greatly admired the Impressionists for a similar reason in that the images presented strove to provide some insight into the characters, even if contrived – workers working, dancers practicing, women bathing or simply lounging, etc.

Douglas Hofmann
Douglas Hofmann was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1945 and began his training in art after high school at the Maryland Institute College of Art. He also discovered the Maroger method, which enables the artist to use thin layers of paint and techniques similar to those of the Old Masters. He states, "With my paintings, I strive to get the feeling of air. There is a signature to the work that reveals my hand, my feelings and my personality. You can see the manipulation of the paint and the brush strokes. I don’t want to paint everyday scenes. I’m a dreamer. I want to express a romantic feeling in my work. This appeals to me as a form of self-expression in today’s world of structured reality."

This original 56-inch square acrylic on canvas painting evokes a sense of delight and playfully nods at summery vintage aesthetics. Remender grew up in Arizona and is based in Southern California, but she has traveled all over the world gaining inspiration for her work. It evokes a bygone era when Ernest Hemingway and Jackie O. were among the clientele.
“I’m a bit of an old soul and there is a sense of elegance and beauty that has been lost in modern-day society, and I seek to recapture this essence in my work. I’m creating a sort of fantasy world of luxury, leisure, and old Hollywood glamour.”
Her work has appeared in galleries in the US and Asia and in GQ Magazine, Architectural Digest, Dwell, California Home, People, among many other publications. Her paintings hang in luxury properties including The Ritz Carlton San Francisco, The Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas, and Hilton properties across the United States, as well as in the homes of celebrity collectors including Ryan Seacrest and Kylie Jenner.
