This poignant yellow pastel landscape is by the renowned painter Wolf Kahn, whose work is famously characterized by abstraction and figuration, as his gorgeously colored landscapes transform into color fields. This particular work is special because it came from the private collection of distinguished art critic and artist Lawrence (Larry) Campbell, who received it as a gift from Wolf Kahn in 1974. It is accompanied by a hand signed and dated Letter of Provenance from Mr. Campbell's daughter which reads, "This painting has been in my home since 1974 when it was given to my father, the late Lawrence (Larry) Campbell, by the artist, Wolf Kahn. In the lower right hand corner of the painting, Mr. Kahn wrote in pencil, 'To Larry in friendship- Wolf 1974.' My father was also a painter, a Director at the Arts Students League of New York, Professor of Art at Pratt Institute & Brooklyn College and an Art Critic for Art News and Art in America Magazines, for over 50 years." The work is also hand signed by the artist, lower left, so it bears two signatures. Autumn Cotilion - Japanese Style Gyotaku Painting on Marbled Mulberry Paper

In Japan they are known as Nishikigoi, or living jewels. These brilliantly colored varieties of the Amur carp have been selectively bred by family owned fisheries for generations. When I began this series of Gyotaku (Japanese fish printing) I studied the many varieties of Koi, each with their own unique colors and patterns. My particular favorites are the Tanchos which can be identified by the distinct red spot on their heads. To create these pieces I print common carp I catch myself with sumi ink using traditional techniques used by Japanese fisherman dating back the mid 1800's. I then tint the images using watercolor. In each piece I hope to translate a sense of movement to give the viewer a sense of calm one might experience watching the living versions lazily meandering around a serene pond. —Jeff Conroy
Several koi swim in a circle while autumn leaves fall on the surface of the water in this Gyo-tako method of painting by artist Jeff Conroy. After inking and taking impressions of the koi, the artist then uses watercolors to enhance their beauty. By using marbled mulberry paper to print on, he has created the illusion of water with the swirls of the mulberry paper. The paper itself has a soft hue and slightly wavy texture adding the overall feel of the artwork. This artwork is unframed. Contact gallery for framing options.

Original mid-century illustration for the children's book "Good Work" by John G. McCullough, Young Scott Books, N.Y. It depicts a busy harbor filled with commercial and leisure traffic. Notice all the charming little people, busy at work - dotting the docks and boats. Ipcar masterfully designed the work so that your eye effortlessly travels from more prominent foreground elements to more minor elements in the distance. But her color scheme limited only to two colors sets "Harbor Scene" apart from the humdrum and elevates it to a sophisticated children's book illustration. The suspension bridge in the back of the composition is modeled after the Golden Gate. The illustration bears the hallmarks of modernism with its flat shapes and quick painterly style. "Harbor Scene" represents the artist's early style. By the '60s and '70s, her work began to take on a new direction with intricate patterns and depicting animals.

Janusz Kokot was born in Kalisz in 1960. He studied at the Pedagogical University in Częstochowa at the Art Institute. He practices painting and drawing. In the years 1988 - 2020 he organized 19 individual exhibitions. He took part in dozens of collective exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He is a laureate of 13 prizes and distinctions in national competitions.
