About the Item
Drawing, pastel, Pencil, Petal Flowers, Color and Ink on Paper. The base of this drawing is 120g/m2 Fabriano paper. I use natural dyes from flowers, herbs, leaves, and tree bark as the first drawing process, then on this surface I draw the figures with a pen, finishing with colored pencils and pastel.
I believe that one of the highest goals in this life is to know who you really are, my work is part of this process and these images show an inner world that escapes me and shows you a flicker of eternity. The animals present in my work are enigmatic companions and teachers of life who live in the present, unlike us humans trapped in our thoughts.
Color is very important to me, I am South American and my ancestral and cultural roots have transmitted it to me. Shipped unframed in envelope with certificate of authenticity.

Luis-Xiua is a Colombian artist who has gained recognition for his innovative technique and deep respect for nature, reflected in each of his works. With a background in contemporary art from the Universidad Javeriana and formal training in painting from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Luis-Xiua has developed a distinctive style that combines the abstract and the figurative. His work is inspired by the essence of South America and the principles of Constructive Universalism, offering a unique and evocative vision of the natural and fantastical world. Animals are a constant presence in Luis-Xiua’s art, serving as a reminder of our intrinsic connection with nature. His works often feature human figures, animals, and imaginary beings intertwined in dreamlike and surreal landscapes, creating an atmosphere of mystery and magic. The fusion of abstract and figurative elements in his work invites the viewer to explore multiple interpretations and immerse themselves in fantastical worlds where colors, textures, and creatures coexist harmoniously. Luis-Xiua’s artistic process is characterized by a deliberately slow, layer-by-layer creation, resisting the relentless pace of the contemporary world. This patient and careful methodology allows him to create works of depth and visual richness, offering an aesthetic experience that invites contemplation and reflection, bringing a fresh and evocative perspective to the world of contemporary art.

Luis was born in Zipaquirá (Colombia), the city where the famous salt cathedral is located, lives and works in Bogotá. He studied painting and art history at the Javeriana and National University of Colombia. His artistic processes are slow, he transforms matter until he creates his own worlds. In his work, he reflects on today's society, addressing some of the contemporary problems: a world hyperconnected to social networks, but with deep loneliness. In his work there is an intersection with the gaze of animals, a call to remember our same condition of equality, respect and care towards them. He was influenced by Native American art, the fantastic realism of the Peruvian painter Armando Villegas, the abstraction and constructive universalism of the Uruguayan artist Joaquín Torres García. Color, textures and fantastic beings make up the worlds that inhabit his painting.

Omaha based artist Joseph Broghammer is as much of a storyteller as he is an artist. His one-of-a-kind pastel drawings in “Animals” are chronicles of his life. The creatures Broghammer creates are vehicles to uncover the varying characteristics of the artist’s personal identity.
Hence, Broghammer’s “Animals” translates as a flowing stream of consciousness. The different birds and livestock staring back at the viewer are ornamented with iconographic symbols – small surprises along the way. These trinkets are keys to understanding the stories Broghammer is sharing.
Broghammer began mastering his “dry painting” technique during his B.F.A. in Visual Art at the University of South Dakota. He graduated in 1986 and a year later went on to study his M.F.A. at the University of Wisconsin. In 2009, he studied at Creative Capital in Omaha, Nebraska.
As storytellers often do, Broghammer later went on to become an educator himself, teaching at WhyArts? and becoming an Artist Assistant at Vera Mercer in Omaha – both of which he still practices at today.
It’s apparent that Broghammer’s work has resonated with so many people around the world. Only a few years after his formal education, he began exhibiting his work through various International group shows in Italy, Germany, Holland, Mexico, and even Kansas City.
Although Broghammer’s portraits depict downy creatures, his work is very much about the human experience. They are honest and full of life, evoking a sincere exchange between artist and viewer. “Animals” is for the animal lovers, students, teachers, collectors, writers, the young or old, and art historians alike.
