Flying
Located in Llanbrynmair, GB
’Flying’ By Yutaka Takayanagi. Medium - Relief and lithographic print Edition - 14/20 Signed - Yes Size - 790mm x 570mm Date - 1976 Condition - Excellent. 10 out of 10. Born in Tokyo in 1941, Takayanagi's artistic journey began when he enrolled at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1960, studying under the renowned oil painter Kaoru Yamaguchi. His talent was quickly recognized when he received an Honorable Mention at the 8th Shell Arts Award Exhibition in the same year. During his time at university, Takayanagi took an intensive course in copper plate printing under Tetsuro Komai, receiving his degree from the graduate school in 1966. Fascinated by the simultaneous color print method, he started creating copperplate prints and soon gained recognition for his unique metallic reliefs, which he produced using collages of English newspapers. Takayanagi's passion for experimentation led him to create metallic emboss reliefs using his own photographs, and in the latter half of the 1980s, he moved on to silkscreen prints. He continued to push the boundaries of his art, constantly exploring new techniques and mediums. In 1978 and the following year, Takayanagi was appointed as an arts researcher for the Ministry of Culture and traveled to the United States, France, and the UK. These experiences enriched his artistic perspective and further cemented his reputation as a highly regarded artist. Takayanagi was part of the influential printmaking group Sosaku Hanga, which emerged in the early 20th century in Japan. This movement emphasized the artist's involvement in every stage of the printmaking process, from designing the image to carving and printing the blocks. Takayanagi's work often incorporates elements of nature and landscape, with an emphasis on texture and pattern. He also experimented with collage, incorporating found materials like newspaper clippings and photographs into his prints. Takayanagi's work has been exhibited extensively in Japan and internationally, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo. He has also received numerous awards for his contributions to printmaking, including the Japan Print Association Award and the Purple Ribbon Medal...

Iain Baxter& "Regurgitating Landscape" Conceptual Monoprint Painting
Located in Surfside, FL
Landscape with beach chair or lawn chair in bright vibrant colors. Iain Baxter& (the artist recently added the ampersand to his name) is recognized as Canada’s pioneering conceptual artist. For over forty years, Baxter& has continually produced works that question the role of art as commodity and as a medium for cultural commentary. Among his many innovations, Baxter& was the first artist to adopt a corporate persona: in 1966, he formed the N.E. Thing Company. NETCO output ranged from conceptual, satirical, vacuum-formed still lives to post-modern appropriations of famous artworks. His recent work includes neon signs, ‘animal preserves’, a grocery cart of ‘GMO’s’ (genetically modified organisms) and installations using obsolete technology.) He is a painter, photographer, sculptor, mixed media artist, installationist, film & video maker, interventionist & performance artist who has been a forerunner of conceptual art in Canada. BAXTER& has been considered the Marshall McLuhan of Visual Arts in Canada. Continuous themes in his work include information technology, landscape, art as commodity, & environmental & ecological concerns. These prominent themes throughout BAXTER&‘s work are often met with wit, parody, satire & word-play. Through his art, teaching, and mentorship, BAXTER& has widely influenced Canadian art, creating new movements such as the Vancouver School of Photo-conceptualism and blurring the lines between private and public through his N.E. Thing Co. among many other impactful projects. He has also directly influenced major Canadian artists, including Stan Douglas, Ian Wallace, Jeff Wall, Roy Arden, Ken Lum and Rodney Graham. BAXTER& has exhibited throughout Canada and internationally in the United States, China, Korea, Japan, and Europe including at the Guggenheim New York, The National Gallery of Canada & the Canadian Cultural Center in Paris, France, Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Modern Art, New York & the Tate Modern, London. In 2011, BAXTER&’s work was compiled into a major retrospective IAIN BAXTER&: 1958--‐2011, organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario & The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. His work can be found in collections including the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Vancouver Art Gallery, the F.R.A.C Art Museum in Bretagne, France, the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, The Netherlands, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, & the Tate Modern, London. Untitled (Līnea Study), 2022
Located in Washington, DC
Original work by Mary Early. Graphite, wax crayon, and sumi ink on Arches paper, 12.25 x 16". "The production, or “pouring,” of beeswax elements has become a meditative process that is integral to my art practice, serving as an observation of time, materials, and space. The raw beeswax I use has taken its form at the end of a long series of natural processes followed by a manufacturing process, and once it is in my hands, the studio becomes a factory. I apply my own methods of transforming the material by casting the beeswax into three-dimensional forms. Once I have fixed both a place and a time in the future for a potential installation, I begin to determine how the beeswax lines will take their aggregated shape in that space and, simultaneously, how many lines might be manufactured for that particular space in the amount of time available." Mary Early (born 1975, Washington, DC) lives and works in Washington, DC. She studied visual art, film, and video at Bennington College, and her work has been exhibited at the United States Botanic Garden, Washington Project for the Arts, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Second Street Gallery (Charlottesville, VA), Hemphill Fine Arts (Washington DC,) the Austrian Cultural Forum (Washington DC), Galerie Im Ersten (Vienna, Austria), Kloster Schloss Salem (Salem, Germany), Kunstlerbund Tubingen (Tubingen, Germany), and the American University Museum (Washington DC) among other regional and national galleries. Her early work incorporated formed concrete, tarpaper and paraffin wax, fabricated wood structures, and, increasingly over the years, surfaces coated with wax as a method of preserving or concealing an object within. Recent works have relied solely on solid forms cast in wax, abandoning the use of any permanent armature. Temporary installations are guided by schematic drawings and plans, which then serve as a permanent record. In 2014 she exhibited her first large-scale installation of wax lines at Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville, VA, followed by temporary installations in response to various historical sites in Salem, Germany (2016) and Tubingen Germany (2017). In 2017 she participated in the exhibition “Twist-Layer-Pour” at the American University Museum, which included Untitled [Curve], an installation of thousands of beeswax lines assembled on the floor of the museum. In spring 2018 she was commissioned to create a temporary installation at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts, Sun Valley Idaho. This work took the form of two intersecting curtains of hanging beeswax lines bisecting a 12’ foot x 18’ foot room, providing an immersive and enclosed viewing space. Early’s work is included in the collections of the US Department of State/Embassy of Panama, Kimpton Hotels, and the District of Columbia Art Bank among other public and private collections. She is a recipient of the Artist Fellowship Grant from the DC Commission on Arts & Humanities, Washington DC (2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2011, 2009, 2007). Early is the director of HEMPHILL Fine Arts, Washington, DC, and serves on the boards of Hamiltonian Artists and Washington Sculptors Group. She handles the work of contemporary artists and artist estates, including the work of William Christenberry, Colby Caldwell, Hedieh Javanshir Ilchi, Linling Lu, Mingering Mike, Robin Rose, Renée Stout...

Aria #3 - Original Oil on Canvas Abstract Figurative Dancer Painting
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Mark Acetelli’s oil and mixed media paintings awaken the viewer’s sense of exploration and adventure; they demand a new discovery. His artworks exhibit a chemistry of complexity and spontaneity, a lyrical abstraction of frenzied marks, many of which previously lay hidden, buried beneath strong layers of self-taught expression. Those truths, first obscured and then obvious, aim to engage the viewer, allowing them to explore their own interpretation. His figurative abstract artworks are represented by Artspace Warehouse in Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including London, New York, and Hong Kong. This original oil painting on canvas measures 14 inches high by 11 inches wide. It is wired and ready to hang. The sides of the artwork are painted black and it does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the front of the artwork and titled on the back. Convenient local Los Angeles area shipping. Affordable U.S. and international shipping also available. A certificate of authenticity issued by Artplex Gallery is included. Mark Acetelli was born in Detroit into an artistic household. Mark’s mother herself was a painter and some of his earliest memories were the smell of turpentine and oil paints. Growing up surrounded by his mother's work, she inspired and encouraged him to become an artist. Acetelli’s paintings are inspired by the intensely personal introspective journey of life, from the ever-changing complexities of love, loss, birth, and death. The context of his work he describes as, “Absence and Presence” pertaining to how someone or something can be physically gone, but the essence still remains. Capturing the physical mixed with spirituality on canvas. His application of paint is an extension of that thought process. He works by continuously building up and tearing down, layer upon layer, adding and subtracting. A visceral dance between the conscious and the unconscious until the emotion is expressed. Acetelli’s paintings may go through multiple incarnations with the past lying just beneath the surface, adding to its overall dimension and depth. In his work, Acetelli seeks to evoke a feeling rather than depict a defined image. He uses primarily oils and encaustics to create thickly layered canvases with emotive bursts of color. Creating a world where imagination and reality come together. Acetelli’s works can be found in many private and corporate collections around the world, including Bill Withers, Lisa Colburn, Colburn School of Music, Raytheon Corp, Universal Studios, Warner Brothers, Michael Jordan, Stuart Beattie, Claire Forlani, Camryn Manheim, and Francine Maisler. Mixed media is distinct from multimedia, which describes art involving electronic media, including video, computers and digital elements. Artists combine painting, drawing, photography and sculpture for mixed media art. Instead of sticking to one form, they aim to break boundaries and create unique pieces. Pop art is one of the vibrant periods for mixed media art, with Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg among its most fabled producers. Rauschenberg, like many mixed media artists, used found objects in his work, from cast-off furniture to newspapers.

Collage is one of the most well-known areas of mixed media. Artists use various types of paper, fabric, photographs and more to create one cohesive work. A type of collage is assemblage, which involves 3D objects.

While artists may use fabric in collage, it can be the very substance of the art itself. Fabric art makes extensive use of texture. Artists may paint or embroider on fabric to create layers of texture and color to evoke a specific feeling. They can also transfer photos onto fabric for innovative ways to display visuals.

Resin-based art has clean, sharp lines and a definitive shape. Resin is a liquid that hardens to a high-gloss surface and is used to seal wood, counters and floors. Resin can also seal artwork, and many artists tint it using pigment powder, ink, spray paint and other vivid materials. If water is added, the resin will turn milky instead of being completely transparent. It’s common for artists working in mixed media to use resin on nontraditional surfaces like glass, wood, metal and stone. This creates a shine that’s perfect to brighten a dull space in the home or office.
