About the Item
Sunshine on a Cloudy Day #2 is a unique medium size contemporary modern sculpture painting relief by US artist Amy Genser. The relief is made from hundreds meticulously hand rolled mulberry paper elements that are carefully mounted on a painted wooden panel. The art work is mounted inside a bespoke box frame with high quality museum glass. The box frame allows the three-dimensional work to be seen from all angles, at the same protecting the art work. An exclusive limited edition 120+ full colour pages monograph is included!
Amy Eisenfeld Genser (1973, USA) graduated with a MFA in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. After graduating she started working as an independent mixed-media artist working from her studios in West Hartford, Connecticut. Amy plays with paper and paint to explore her obsession with texture, pattern, and color. Evocative of natural forms and organic processes, her work is simultaneously irregular and ordered. She uses paper as pigment and constructs her pieces by layering, cutting, rolling and combining paper.
The natural world is a clear source for Amy’s work. She is fascinated by the flow of water, the shape of beehives, and the organic irregularity of plants, flowers, rock formations, barnacles, moss, and seaweed. Her pieces bring to mind aerial landscape views, satellite imagery, and biological cellular processes. The work of Amy Genser is exhibited all over the United States and Europe and is part of numerous private and corporate collections, including renowned companies such as P&O Cruises, Mercedes Benz, Davidoff , Novartis and many more.

Amy Genser
Amy Genser’s love affair with paper began in a paper-making class at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she received a master’s degree in graphic design. Genser has exhibited all over the United States and Europe. Her work is a part of numerous private and corporate collections, including renowned companies such as P&O Cruises, Mercedes Benz, Davidoff, Novartis and many more. Amy lives in West Hartford with her husband and three sons and spends her summers on the beach in Rhode Island.

Hester’s practice is a meditation on both her personal and our collective pasts. Throughout her works, Hester consistently acknowledges the seemingly opposing forces that build our daily lives—creating an atmosphere abounding with both elegy and rejuvenation.
The artist’s technique of painting on each substrate—paper, plexiglass and aluminum—goes far beyond conventional brushwork. Through a painstaking and physical process, she applies and removes acrylic paint with the use of sanders, hammers, routers and drills, in a continual process of building, breaking and rebuilding. Surprisingly, even the works on paper are sanded. Surfaces are mottled and textured, scraped and punctured. Layer upon layer of striated, thick colors dance astride more delicate patterned areas, created with collaged bits of metal leaf and complex cross-hatching marks. Yet, strikingly, the eye finds places of rest as colors and patterns conjoin harmoniously, and chaos and control share spaces.

Francie Hester works principally on sculpted aluminum, steel and plexiglass, in a process-based practice that builds pixelated and vibrant pigments in deep layers with patterns of drips, grids and fragmented shapes that are then deconstructed through sanding, scraping, drilling and cutting to reveal the finished, textured surfaces.
