This painting was developed from sketches made during a trip to the Nagarahole tiger reserve, Jungle retreat Wayanad, Thirunelli. A calm Beautiful environment with trees ,flowers, and tigers . Then later developed into a larger work, in my Devon studio.
Maggie LaPorte Banks artist comments: “My Art is routed in landscape, influenced by childhood memories of Donegal, by Lough Swilly, surrounded by dark mountains. I spent ten years living near to the Brecons Beacons and painting using a tent as a studio in all seasons. For over thirteen years I was an artist in residence in a cottage on the end of Cape Cornwall overlooking the Brisons at different times of the year. Therefore, I have a vast amount of passion for the skies, sea and mountains which I love to involve within my paintings. My recent works have been developed from these roots and are becoming much more abstract, focusing on ‘the essence of place’ through the colours I use and emotions I have created. I work mainly in oils, acrylic and mixed media, sometimes adding unique materials such as sand, carborundum, iron fillings and many other products I feel the work dictates.

Andrea Allen
Andrea Allen is a landscape artist working at home in North Somerset, where she lives with her husband, three children and two dogs. Her paintings share with us the joyful experience of walking in the countryside whilst reflecting on her wistful musings of family life, creating imaginative, vivid impressions of the landscape that capture the poetic charm and subtle humor observed in the everyday. Allen's current artworks use a range of techniques from textured oils, collage, photography and print to depict scenes that inhabit birds, animals and figures telling stories of ordinary adventures in the countryside and by the sea. These bucolic images, abundant in character and rich in intricate detail have a unique naïve quality that engages the viewer to observe a simple narrative that resonates with us all. It is Allen’s original style and enchanting use of color that makes her work so distinctive, she continues to sell her work in galleries around the UK and remains popular with collectors.

During this last year I've been learning about the benefits of the Japanese practice of shinrin yoku, or Forest Bathing. Its no surprise that being in nature is good for both physical and mental wellbeing and to me this painting captures the sights, sounds and smells of the forest.
