Gradwell was 'Artist in Residence' with The Grizedale Society commission.: 1987-1988. On request by the CEO. (Bill Grant OBE) he returned to make some new work since his last visit.
'I was living in London at the time. The escape to those pine forests were like a boy again. Vertical pine forests and horizontal light. Elemental forms visited me. Like a reel of old movie stock , I had to revisit with a new idea'. '.
