Gradwell played his role on commission as 'Artist in Residence' with The Grizedale Society commission a year spent. On request by the CEO. (Bill Grant OBE) the originator of the concept that made many environmentaist atist's careers. He returned to make some new work since his last visit.
'A great gig, I was living in London at the time. . My parents where originally from Cumbria and spent many formative years there. The escape to those pine forests were like a boy again. Vertical pine forests and horizontal light. Elemental forms visited me. Like a reel of old movie stock , I had to revisit with a new idea'.
