About the Item
'Flare' by Antonio Carreno, 2017. Oil on canvas, 36 x 52 inches. This dynamic abstract painting is part of the artist's new series of action paintings, entitled 'Instinct' which features spontaneous yet deeply profound broad strokes of colors in varying blues, black, grey, red, yellow, and white on canvas. This series is created with multiple layers of color, which are selectively revealed by a process of painting, changing or destroying – for however long it takes – until Carreno is satisfied. The series reflects Carreno's deep connection to his inner self, and in capturing the density of light and shadow, provides a doorway for the viewer to tap their own emotions and instincts.
Born in 1963 in Santo Domingo, Dominican/American artist, Antonio Carreno has received accolades around the US and in his native country. He gained his academic background at the National School of Fine Arts, in Santo Domingo.
Carreno has exhibited nationally for over 30 years and is in many public and private collections including Arizona State University, Dillard University, Museum of Modern Art, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and the Latin American Museum of Modern Art, Washington, DC.

Antonio Carreno was born in 1963 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Carreno is an abstract painter, whose work has received accolades nationally. He was born and educated in the Dominican Republic, where he gained his academic background at the National School of Fine Arts. He has exhibited nationally for over 30 years and is in many public and private collections, including Arizona State University, Dillard University, Museum of Modern Art, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and the Latin American Museum of Modern Art, Washington, DC.
