About the Item

A dreamy and expertly painted abstraction by this noted American/Asian artist. Presented in a contemporary and high quality silvered leaf float frame which allows it to breath. Wave of Ur is a layered work that conjures up images within nature and a dreamy world where images and nature coalesce, an impressive and mesmerizing canvas that can hold its own in the realm of very well done works that visually take us away. Within one canvas he has the dark and murky lower right corner and then the enveloping layers of waves and darting colors that indicate other elements of nature. He calls other works from this series “Ghost Waves” and it would have been revealing to have been able to ask him about his thought process with these works. Unframed dimensions are : 52 x 42 inches Beautiful impasto and texture.

French Abstract Contemporary , Mount Fuji
By Georges Noel
Located in Greenwich, CT
This Mount Fuji inspired work is what Noel called a Palimpseste. Meaning like an ancient piece of papyrus paper, man would use the paper over and over again, making his markings. There is sand on the canvas and he worked on this wet to incise in and build up the surface so there is beautiful texture. It is elegantly framed in a gold leaf float frame - 24 karat gold. Noel is an avant grade artist that worked alongside Cy Twombly in his early years at Fachetti Galleries in Paris - both artists used writing/.graffiti to form their compositions. Beginning in the late 1950s through 2000, Georges Noël produced both canvases and works on hand-made papers inspired by palimpsests, 6th century manuscript pages...

Ocean Blue Abstract Expressionist
By Jerzy Kubina
Located in Lake Worth Beach, FL
Ocean Large Blue Abstract Expressionist artist signed and titled. Jerzy Kubina Polish/American Artist: Jerzy was born in Zamosc, Poland, 1956. Studied at the Academy Of Fine Arts in Krakow 1981/1986 in the painting department under individual instructions of prof. Jan Szancenbach. He decided to immigrate to New York in 1986. Jerzy constructs large scale images on silk using technologies to create layers, textures, translucency. He is searching for a language that expresses the ideas inside. Sometimes the paintings are quiet and translucent, and then suddenly become very dramatic. There is a symbiotic relationship between him and the materials. Jerzy Kubina has exhibited his work widely in the US, including at Soho New York's first-ever gallery, the esteemed O. K. Harris. He has also shown internationally, in Paris, Poland and Mexico. Kubina graduated Magna Cum Laude from the M. A. program of The Academy of Fine Arts, Cracow, Poland. Artist Statement. "I do not limit myself to a classical representation of an image. I'm in constant search of new media which not only enriches the subject but also inspires me to new forms of expression. Visual appreciation is a creative exercise performed in a specified time and a specific emotional state. The subject must be individual and unique. I do not attempt to keep a tight rein on my art’s framework, but give myself the opportunity to individualize each of the works. My present concerns are of the sacred and the profane, always longing for harmony, accompanied by destruction and devastation, my inner world translates that pulse into color images. My new works are a continuation of the process of creating art for art's sake. "Rough Seas"
By Vaclav Vytlacil
Located in Lambertville, NJ
Signed and dated 1958 lower right. Vaclav Vytlacil (1892-1984) He was born to Czechoslovakian parents in 1892 in New York City. Living in Chicago as a youth, he took classes at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, returning to New York when he was 20. From 1913 to 1916, he enjoyed a scholarship from the Art Students League, and worked with John C. Johansen (a portraitist whose expressive style resembled that of John Singer Sargent), and Anders Zorn. He accepted a teaching position at the Minneapolis School of Art in 1916, remaining there until 1921. This enabled him to travel to Europe to study Cézanne’s paintings and works of the Old Masters. He traveled to Paris, Prague, Dresden, Berlin, and Munich seeking the works of Titian, Cranach, Rembrandt, Veronese, and Holbein, which gave him new perspective. Vytlacil studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Munich, settling there in 1921. Fellow students were Ernest Thurn and Worth Ryder, who introduced him to famous abstractionist Hans Hofmann. He worked with Hofmann from about 1922 to 1926, as a student and teaching assistant. During the summer of 1928, after returning to the United States, Vytlacil gave lectures at the University of California, Berkeley, on modern European art. Soon thereafter, he became a member of the Art Students League faculty. After one year, he returned to Europe and successfully persuaded Hofmann to teach at the League as well. He spent about six years in Europe, studying the works of Matisse, Picasso, and Dufy. In 1935, he returned to New York and became a co-founder of the American Abstract Artists group in 1936. He later had teaching posts at Queens College in New York; the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California; Black Mountain College in North Carolina; and the Art Students League. His paintings exhibit a clear inclination toward modernism. His still lives and interiors from the 1920s indicate an understanding of the art of Cézanne. In the 1930s, his works displayed two very different kinds of art at the same time. His cityscapes and landscapes combine Cubist-inspired spatial concerns with an expressionistic approach to line and color. Vytlacil also used old wood, metal, cork, and string in constructions, influenced by his friend and former student, Rupert Turnbull. He eventually ceased creating constructions as he considered them too limiting. The spatial challenges of painting were still his preference. During the 1940s and 1950s, his works indicated a sense of spontaneity not felt in his earlier work. He married Elizabeth Foster in Florence, Italy, in 1927 and they lived and worked in Positano, Italy for extended periods of time. Later on, they divided their time between homes in Sparkill, New York and Chilmark, Massachusetts, where Vyt, as he was affectionately called, taught at the Martha's Vineyard Art...
