About the Item

Chloe Hedden’s Forget Me Not Blue Excess from her Excess series continues her exploration of Excessivism, using thick, sculptural paint to express themes of overindulgence and emotional intensity. The soft yet striking forget-me-not blue, often associated with nostalgia, tranquility, and commercial branding, contrasts with the chaotic, unrestrained brushstrokes, evoking a tension between calmness and excess. The heavy, swirling textures suggest both movement and suffocation, symbolizing the overwhelming nature of modern life and consumer culture. The exaggerated materiality reflects a world obsessed with accumulation, while the untouched, impulsive strokes capture the artist’s raw emotions in the moment of creation. Forget Me Not Blue Excess is both a critique of societal excess and a deeply personal reflection, offering a compelling visual statement on the paradoxes of abundance in contemporary life. *Inquire about groupings of multiples. A painting from Chloe's "Excessivism" series where she explores the excessive use of paint to express her feelings about the current state of the world. The works are pure abstraction and usually often employ bright colors used in the commercial world. Brush strokes are impulsive and are left unaltered to capture her mood at the time of making. About the ideology of "Excessivism"; it is a reflection, examination, or investigation of every aspect of life in excessive state with particular consideration to the areas that have real and consequential effect on the members of the society. Subject areas are, but not limited to, economics, politics and psychology. In the area of economics it is a commentary on economic materialism. It reflects, examines and investigates the excessive desire to acquire material goods beyond one's needs and often means. "Excessivism" depicts the excessive use of resources in an exaggerated way, by means of two- or three-dimensional visual creations, written or spoken words, or in any other manner. It aims at a reflection, examination, or investigation of the capitalist system, devoid of aesthetic, legal, commercial, ethical, moral, racial, or religious considerations." --Wikipedia keywords; contemporary use of paint, bright and vivid colors, women artists, wall hanging, materiality folds, process-based, dynamism, wall sculpture, abstract art, minimalism and contemporary minimalism, pastel, rough, biomorphic, thick brush strokes, painterly, monochrome, line, form, and color, focus on materials, abstract sculpture About artist: Born in Utah (USA), Chloe Hedden looks for the unseen patterns and hidden narratives that reveal the magnificence in all things. According to the artist, there is a still point in every moment and to capture this essential luminescence is what she aims for in her practice. Chloe makes use of archetypes from the cultural and mystical history to inform her work. It is through this inspiration that she created her latest body of work comprised of intricately folded Burlap wall sculptures. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002, Chloe's paintings and sculptures can be found in numerous public and private collections.
