About the Item

2025 I – 4 is a unique textile (double weave, handwoven cotton stretched on frame) artwork by contemporary artist Christiane Maurer, dimensions are 80 × 105 cm (31.5 × 41.3 in). The artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. In this series, the artist structures the canvas using a loosely arranged grid, where the misaligned geometric patterns create a playful dialogue between form and colour. This compositional device allows her to intensify the visual interplay among the selected hues—in this instance, various shades of turquoise blue. Christiane Maurer’s work, meticulously hand-woven on a loom, investigates colour interaction, transition, and layering. Working in the language of abstraction, she employs simple geometric motifs to generate intersecting lines and shifting patterns. Each series delves into a new chromatic and compositional variation, reflecting an ongoing exploration. Her pieces range from bold, saturated palettes to more delicate tonal harmonies, revealing subtle iridescence and colour shifts that respond to ambient light and viewer movement. Her creative process is a synthesis of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary digital tools. The conceptual stage begins on the computer, where she uses graphic design software to develop colour studies and shape the digital version of her concept. A second program translates this digital composition into a weaving draft, determining the precise colours of each warp and weft thread. With the loom prepared and the threads arranged in exact sequence, Maurer weaves using the age-old technique of double weaving. Once complete, the woven piece is stretched over a wooden frame, resembling a canvas. This intricate process demands intense precision and concentration, and can take several months from conception to completion. Before fully dedicating herself to her artistic practice, Christiane Maurer worked as an industrial textile designer and researcher in the field of colour perception and chromatic systems. Since 2022, she has been a member of the Pulchri Studio, a historic Dutch art institution, and she now exhibits her work across Europe.
