About the Item
Cynthia Rojas’ practice occurs freely–shedescribes “haphazardly” applying paint and the “intuitive” formation of line. Illusion, too, makes its way into Rojas’ images, as she applies patterns that create an impression of embroidery. The result is dynamic, leaving evidence of Rojas’ expressive process.
Architectural features and aerial landscapes have inspired Rojas’ recent works, drawing on the artist’s annual visits to Mexico. The title of this show highlights the nomadic origins of Rojas’ inspiration. Indeed, it is the colorful facades of homes in Mexico that have most inspired Rojas’ recent work.
Cynthia Rojas has exhibited internationally, including group exhibitions at CMU Gallery in Thailand, the Art Hotel Gran Paradiso in Italy, and the Perish Trust in San Francisco. Her solo exhibitions have taken place at Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Branch Gallery in California, and 111 in Osaka, Japan. Rojas has held residencies at Chiang Mai University, Meridian Gallery, and others.
