An illusion. This seemingly self-explanatory title carries weighted depth. The background of this painting, “MATRIX” is an abstract representation of 1999’s The Matrix. The movie's protagonist discovers that his reality isn't real. Instead, the world is a vast orchestrated simulation of AI that harvests humans for their energy. ETTE thought to herself, "am I in control of my life? Or is my life in control of me?" Embodied on canvas as the playstation controller buttons, lies the answer to the question some dare not ask: "am I the player of the game, or does the game exist to play me?"

ETTE
ETTE is a shamanistic artist using paint to bring energy into the physical form. The name ETTE is derived from a nickname her grandmother gave her as a child, Taylorette. Her grandmother was an international award winning photographer, published illustrator, and successful artist. She unexpectedly passed in November of 2017, two weeks after Taylor moved to New York in pursuit of becoming an artist. It is believed that all of her artistic abilities live on within ETTE. To attest to this statement, it should be known that Taylor grew up right handed, but now paints exclusively with her left. Her grandmother’s dominant hand.
