About the Item
This abstract landscape is reminiscent of my last trip to northern Norway. Very cold but on the islands the sea creates a moderation of climate, snow is great when it's dry but often the rain comes off the North Sea so the locals appreciate going out to ski on the streets when it is favorable, between thaw and frost.
What seems like a serene seascape, where gentle orange tones appear to clash with calm blues, reveals a deeper stillness. The textured surface conveys rich layers of emotion embedded within. Strokes of white brushwork impart an ethereal quality, while two boats rest quietly on the water, suggesting both isolation and connection. A small house with its bold red door prompts thoughts of solitude amid the vast, open landscape. This evocative piece subtly addresses contemporary themes of solitude and community,

Evy Olsen Halvorsen (aka Halvorsen Holstein) was born in northern Norway and cur-rently lives in Kingston WA. Evy and her parents immigrated in 1956 to the neighborhood of Ballard in Seattle WA. After graduation from High School, and some community college, Evy moved briefly to San Francisco before landing in Kitsap County with husband and daugh-ters. After raising her daughters, owning a couple of businesses, she continued her educa-tion at Cornish College of the Arts, receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts, cum laude in 1999, in Painting and Printmaking.
