About the Item
"On the Water XVII: Come Sail Away" is a framed oil and wax work on panel by Jeff Erickson, with an abstract composition with color blocks of cool and royal blue, interrupted by a stripe of vibrant magenta and contrasting white. The colors and composition evoke a dreamlike waterscape, the warmth of a sunset on the horizon. Erickson's process of using wax encaustic creates pieces that seem to glow from within, his color choices both vibrant and ethereal.
This piece is finished in a silver scoop floater frame with a taupe/natural woodgrain finish along the frame's interior and sides. Pricing includes the pictured frame. Unframed dimensions are 24 x 24 inches.
About the artist: Erickson knew at an early age art would be a part of his life. His grandmother was an American Impressionist painter, and he would watch her create colorful brush strokes across the canvas. Erickson grew up traveling the world and living abroad with his family that allowed him to visit museums across the world, and soak in images of faraway landscapes.
Erickson’s art developed out of these experiences, with an eye towards texture and abstraction. His paintings have a minimal and literal landscape element, capturing and conveying the textures of life. “The experience of painting is a great escape from the complexities of life, and I always find myself creating an abstract scene of peacefulness, relaxation, and calmness. I’m drawn to water, the sea, the ocean, and these feelings show up in my abstract landscapes. I paint with oils and wax medium on canvas, gessoed hardboard, and paper. I’m able to create multiple layers of translucent colors and through the process of scratching, distressing, and dissolving, I’m able to capture depth and feeling within the painting. With each painting, I start with no end game. I allow the painting to develop and see where it leads me.”

A big, expressive semi-abstract blue landscape - while being in self-isolation because of Covid19 I am dreaming more and more often of sailing away from it all... here you can find lovely pastel blues with lots of markmaking, watertraces and traces of the painting process. Some expressive graphite drawing adds to the dynamics of the painting. The half painted frame...
