About the Item
Bibliophile' explores the energy of precariousness... are the forms perfectly balanced, or are they near to collapse? Using a carefully mediated colour palette which is by turns both recessive and complementary, I'm interested in the ambiguity of an image which might signify something both celebratory and chaotic, with touchpoints to the analog world of books and the digital world of data.
Jeremy Morgan has paintings available with Wychwood Art. In my painting I aim to walk a precarious but playful path along boundaries: between object and product, digital and analogue, flat and physical, design and art, work and play. I’m aiming to find a response as a painter working in a digital age. Dividing my creative output between design and an evolving contemporary artist practice, my design background has influenced the development of my visual language, which seeks to marry dynamism and friction with the beauty and imperfection of the contemporary world. My pieces are generally painted on board or wood panels – I often build paintings from separate panels which are arranged and re-arranged during the process until I feel the composition works. Using separate elements and being open to change during the making process is an important strategy for me and helps keep possibilities open – it's quite common for me to invert or re-order elements many times, so that the final painting ends up radically changed from my original sketches. Many of my paintings are box mounted – the depth of this boxing allowing the works to be elevated beyond the realm of flat painting to become something more crafted and tactile. I'm interested in the potential contradiction of responding to the fast-paced contemporary world with an older, slower technology – paint. But the marks left by my brush on the work's surface which are discernible on close inspection are important signifiers of the possibilities which painting still holds to respond to our present times.

Seven Apples: abstract still life interior painting, red apples on green & gray
By Mat Tomezsko
Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
This is an original sill life interior painting of fruit (apples) with a geometric fractured composition. The artist made the painting one section at a time. When working on one section, the artist would block off the rest of the composition so the objects and background needed to be placed again. By building the composition this way, the background and table appear at different levels and the shapes don't quite align. These imperfections convey a sense of passing time. In each section, the tone of the light changes, and the shadows switch directions. The apples and geometric shapes were chosen as much for metaphorical value as for aesthetics. A seemingly simple arrangement in a familiar painting genre contains a depth of observation, artistic choices, and interpretation.
This painting is signed and dated on the back. Includes all hanging hardware and ready to install; no need for additional framing.

Ash: geometric abstract mixed media painting w/ red flowers, fruit & black lines
By Mat Tomezsko
Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
Mat Tomezko's latest series of abstract mixed media paintings are constructed from traditional acrylic painting and the incorporation of ash into a hand-mixed paint of his own creation. This piece is part of a body of work that uses evocative materials and imagery of fire, flowers, food, newspapers, asphalt, and ash to illuminate the interconnectedness of destructive and creative forces. "Ash" is a traditional still-life and landscape composition interrupted by broad black geometric chevron lines or "arrows" that divide the composition symmetrically in a geometric balance. This painting is signed and dated on the back. It includes all hanging hardware and is ready to install -- no need for additional framing.
