Barcelona native artist Raul de la Torre's vibrant abstract mixed media artworks pay homage to textiles. A tilting technique permits the paint to be a major architect of the final result, giving it a life of its own. It results in infinite and timeless color combinations. Raul de la Torre was born in Barcelona in 1964 and attended Massana Art School. About the Fils series, de la Torre remarks: “FILS I COLORS is an attempt to find life, movement and parts that are not static, that change in their interaction with the observer. Referencing the work of Sam Francis, Frankenthaller and deKooning, the abstract color fields and interrupted lines are meant to draw the viewer into the piece to find an ever evolving composition. Using a continuously changing palate of colors and a multitude of layers of paint and collage, the work conveys texture and weight derived from obliterating some details of the past while accentuating others. With this, the process of the piece is preserved, creating almost an archeological experience for the viewer; discovering details the deeper you look. Hard edges meet soft, spontaneous and organic drips of paint overlap with meticulously created linework.
