About the Item

Larry Bell Untitled (Fraction of Fractions), 2000 Pink, green and black painted elements with applied canvas and paper strips on French watercolor paper Pencil signed and dated lower center front. Also accompanied by xerox of letter to collectors describing the artwork and inspiration Frame Included; held in original vintage artist's frame This unique collage on paper work was created by Larry Bell, a key figure in the Light and Space Movement. It is an artwork from his "Fractions" project. It is also a great example of Bell's investigation of perceptions on a flat plane. Work is accompanied by a copy of a letter from the artist Larry Bell, Taos, New Mexico dated November 2000. The letter outlines the creation of these works as a gift to celebrate his work on his Fractions project (started in 1996). The artist writes about these Fractions, in part: "The little works are mindscapes. If there is such a thing. They encompass an awesome amount of studio skills and the element of time. Since the work is made from earlier work, inherent in each one is the history of my investigations with light and surface, and also my interest in improvisation and intuition. At this stage, I do not know if the work is resolved or if it is just the beginning of a long and protracted study into two-dimensional imagery.." Exhibition History: Larry Bell Studio Annex, Taos, New Mexico, Fractions Exhibition, 2000 Provenance: From the Estate of Benno and Babette Rothschild. Work is accompanied by a copy of a letter from the artist Larry Bell, Taos, New Mexico dated November 2000.
