About the Item
SUNDOG 15 is an acrylic on panel painting belonging to the Sundog series inspired by the meteorological phenomenon of Sundogs (parhelia), occurrences of bright spots straddling the Sun in a 22° halo.
The colors are directly swatched from tree leaves collected by the artist in a forest nearby her studio. The contrast between the hues reminds us of early fall, adding dynamism and visually drawing us into the radiant center of the painting.
Ferguson’s affinity for shapes and geometric patterns comes back to her early experiences with crochet stitching, which constructed her unique way of visualizing the world. In her work, she starts from an idea of an image, semi-consciously building it through sets of patterns into a three-dimensional, abstract object.
SUNDOG 15 was featured in Linda King Ferguson’s solo exhibition Kissing the Sky at the Channel To Channel Gallery.
