Approach to Grim’s Ditch Ridgeway is an original painting by Mike Ibbotson. The layered effect of the paint and use of line draws the viewer into the pathway. The bright greens give the piece a sense of vibrancy.
Mike Ibbotson is inspired by hilly and mountainous landscapes. Ibbotson is also a landscape designer, an aspect of his life that is highly influential to his painting style which originates from an approach to observation which is personally philosophical by creating rough sketches that depict both the space around him as well as the subject matter that it holds. His work is vibrant and he characteristically utilises loose brush strokes in an effortless manner. Ibbotson works quickly, producing an organic drawing of what he sees as opposed to a stylised finish. He has been shown with Royal Society of British Artists and was previously awarded the RBA ‘Best work on Paper’ prize. Ibbotson has also showed in the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Open Prize Exhibition.
