About the Item

This series of four abstract paintings in orange, blue, yellow and purple is by Milly Ristvedt. Master colourist Milly Ristvedt continues her exploration of form and colour in this expressive four panel abstract composition. Against vivid colours– purple, yellow, orange and blue, each panel features multi-coloured precise geometric shapes that intersect and dance around the canvas. Look closely and you’ll see subtle grid lines as a backdrop on each canvas. The four canvases measure 12 x 18 inches each and spacing in photo is 12 inches apart, but that can be adjusted depending on location. Art Critic Barry Lord (Art in America) declared that “Ristvedt’s paintings were more insistent than Bush, more consciously structured than Molinari.” “Colour,” she writes, “is the philosopher’s stone that for me represents hope in a time of great challenge for us all.” Milly Ristvedt Milly Ristvedt was born in British Columbia and studied at the Vancouver School of Art (now the Emily Carr University). Her first solo exhibit was at the Carmen Lamanna Gallery in Toronto. Yellow Grid Play - orange, grey, green, geometric abstract, acrylic on canvas
By Milly Ristvedt
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Precise squares in orange, rust red, green, grey, maroon and white dance, overlap and swirl on a washed canary yellow ground in this intimate canvas by Milly Ristvedt. Color and the grid are the focus of Ristvedt's paintings that through one's lens of experience will reveal a narrative. "Painting is my freedom 'to be' in the world, to transform what I think and feel about life, to express the essence of things that matter. Colour is the magical sensation and substance, the 'philosopher's stone,' that for me represents hope in a time of great challenge for us all." Milly Ristvedt Early in her career in Toronto in the late 1960s, Ristvedt shared a studio with Canadian painter Jack Bush, met art critic Clement Greenberg and was inspired by American painters Jules Olitiski and Frank Stella. Ristvedt's work can be found in major public collections including the Art Gallery...

By Milly Ristvedt
Located in Bloomfield, ON
A checkerboard of dynamic colour—this abstract work by master colourist Milly Ristvedt immediately engages the viewer. A classic grid pattern accentuates the interplay of light and dark colours—black, navy, red, aubergine and white highlighted by a sunny yellow. Art Critic Barry Lord (Art in America) declared that Ristvedt’s abstract paintings were ‘more insistent than Bush, more consciously structured than Molinari.’ “Colour has been central to my explorations in painting from the beginning.” Milly Ristvedt Born in British Columbia, Ristvedt studied at the Vancouver School of Art (now the Emily Carr University) and had her first solo exhibit at the Carmen Lamanna Gallery in Toronto. EQUIVALENCE 95 - Acrylic on Linen - Purple, Orange Abstract Geometric Painting
By Linda King Ferguson
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
This painting by Linda King Ferguson is part of her equivalence series, which began as a feminist project; works that subvert the historically male gaze and a material language speaking of gendered concerns. The diamond shaped canvas is primarily a brown cardboard color, with two circles dominating the center of the composition. Stacked vertically, the topmost circle is a light lavender color, and the lower circle is a creamy, salmon orange. Two cuts have been made in the canvas on either side of the center, where the edges of the two circles meet. Her color choices first came from Helen Molesworth’s essay, Painting With Ambivalence, published in WACK! Art of the Feminist Revolution. The Essay includes a large reproduction of Mary Heilmann’s 1979 painting...

Located in Cirencester, Gloucestershire
Abstract Expressionist Composition by Gilbert Pelissier (French born 1924) signed, inscribed verso dated 70' oil painting on canvas, unframed canvas size: 16 x 31.5 inches condition: overall very good, a few minor surface scuffs from being stored in the artists studio provenance: all the paintings we have by this artist have come from the artists estate, Paris, France. The artist has skillfully used varying shades to create depth and rhythm within the grid, giving each square a...
