A breathtaking oil painting depicting lips in motion with a photorealistic style that brings the viewer in for closer inspection. The details are flawless, as the glossy lip is defined in an impactful, yet delicate way. Roh Jae, who lives and works in South Korea, is impacted by the history of his country, and the endless stories which flood the city from which he is from. Markings are noticed on the background of graffiti to symbolize that beauty can be hurt, and we all have a story to tell. A truly unique and stunning work which is dramatic and sensual, and has been executed in a masterful way with exquisite details. This painting is signed lower right and comes framed in a contemporary custom frame with hanging wire.

Roh refuses to let daily life slide by, incorporating elements of sympathy into his paintings. Roh's drawings are not simply the lips, but the ‘expression’ of the lips. Roh Jae-soon began to draw from the early days. Sometimes he drew the whole body, but mostly focused on eyes and faces. This collection of the lip work has its significance in telling the story of the world. The moment the artist commits the photographed lips to the canvas, the atmosphere and message of the artwork are determined. For instance, tight lips express the absence of communication and open lips the carpe-diem kind of gaiety. Depending on the expression of the lips, some lips suggest hope for the future, and only the lips are highlighted. Roh expresses the lips in various ways.

My paintings explore the relationship between elements such as the skies, the oceans, the natural environment
such as the formation of rocks, cliffs, and weathered material. In my work, I aim to bring together certain
properties of each of these elements to create an experience and understanding of the world and the contrasting
relationships between each of these ideas.
The use of texture in my work is formed using material which has been subjected to the forces of the weather, and
I love to use ‘untouched’ and ‘natural’ material in my work to form the basis of all my paintings. It is the idea of
bringing together a number of natural materials in my work that inspires me. The contrast between elements such
as the roughness of the texture, the smoothness of the ink or paint. and the reflection of the metallics brings about
a composition and structure that is unique. The impact of the weather, space, and seasons has been important in
determining the structure of each of the paintings and the way the different elements and materials react to one
another.
The use of ink in my work has been a work in progress that I have been experimenting with over the past year.
The use of this new medium has proved to be invaluable to the message and direction that I would like my work
to take. On each of the works, I manipulate the Ink using air from my mouth as I want to form a stronger
relationship with the canvas and the way that the ink Is manipulated. I have particularly enjoyed the added contrast
which has been created between the variety of mediums being used.
