Steven Rehfeld's 'Resonance' is a vivid tapestry of color and texture, spread across a 36" x 57" canvas. The artwork brilliantly juxtaposes warm, fiery shades of red, orange, and yellow with cool, muted segments of purple and white. Rehfeld showcases his mastery through the layering of seemingly disparate materials. The horizontal swaths of color, reminiscent of sunsets or landscapes, are occasionally intersected by bold vertical elements, creating a harmonious sense of balance and contrast.
Splatters, smudges, and patches of exposed canvas imbue the piece with raw energy and spontaneity. Torn paper and fabric, carefully integrated into the composition, add depth and tactile intrigue. 'Resonance' is the fusion of chaos and order, and the beauty that arises when diverse elements come together in a harmonious symphony.
About the Artist:
Introducing Steven H. Rehfeld, a distinctive force in contemporary art, whose innovative approach transcends the conventional boundaries of artistic creation. With a profound grasp on the foundational elements of art, Rehfeld's work is a testament to his unmatched prowess and his relentless pursuit of excellence in the art world.
Born in San Francisco, in October 1954, Steven H. Rehfeld embarked on his artistic journey influenced by the diverse cultural backdrop of the Bay Area. Educated at the College of San Mateo and the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he majored in Studio Art, Rehfeld refined his eclectic style, harmoniously blending abstract art with realism. "First and foremost, I go beyond any artist ever," Rehfeld asserts, reflecting his deep understanding of art's foundation akin to the scientific precision of the periodic table. This comparison underlines his approach to art as a rigorous discipline where each element is as crucial as a chemical compound in a meticulously crafted formula.

Steven H. Rehfeld
Steven H. Rehfeld, a California artist, holds a B.A. in studio art from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He draws inspiration from the 'Outsiders' school of art that originated in 19th-century France, known as the Naïve movement. Also referred to as the Naïve or Primitive art movement, was comprised of artists with no formal art training who discovered their talent and began painting. Many of these artists came from challenging backgrounds, and their raw talent remained untapped until they expressed themselves through art. The movement quickly gained prominence and spread worldwide. Steven Rehfeld's artistic style has evolved beyond the Naïve movement, incorporating earth elements to create a basic and raw interpretation of his artistic message. Artist Statement "My oil, acrylic, and mixed media paintings explore the dynamic relationship between progressiveness and tradition, personal and cultural experiences, and the interplay between the human form and iconography. Through these explorations, I engage in a dialogue that reveals how the intangible influences the material world. Color contrast forms, negative/positive space, and visual kinetic energy shape these artistic relationships. Additionally, I fuse abstract art with elements of realism to create a unique artistic experience." About this Artwork:
Magnetism and light are both mysterious, The universe is saturated in this dynamic phenomenon. The word dynamic means a force that stimulates change or progress within a system or process.

Through his paintings, he reasserts that abstraction has been a part of humanity, all cultures in all ages. It’s an indispensable tool, as we create symbols, vessels to fill with allusions and messages. The resulting artwork have a strong sense of purpose.
Each painting contains hundreds of hand coloured trapezoid shapes, hand drawn with a sharp blade onto silver or gold leaf. Each coloured shape can be interpreted to represent an ‘atomic’ element. On its own a block of colour is insignificant but seen as part of a whole it becomes dynamic and alive reflecting on how nature works. The phenomena of light is also important to the work. The light of the sun in a room illuminates and reflects off the paintings as they come alive and change through time.
