"Atmospheric ambiguity and a love of structure are long-time preoccupations and both are central to my work. Driven by a persistent curiosity to see where the work will lead me, I work intuitively and without a preconceived end point. I look to evoke possibilities rather than presenting certainties. Once I have settled into a direction for a body of work, the series unfolds through numerous iterations as I keep asking ‘what if’. Within each painting, I generally work with a limited palette to keep the visual focus on texture and atmosphere, as well as extending what I can discover within that palette. Oil paint is brushed on and scraped in multiple watery layers, and coarsely sanded to reveal previous layers. Through this process of accretion and removal, I tease out the essence of accumulated sensory experiences." - Tamar Zinn
