About the Item

Artist Commentary: I create abstract paintings that distill the light, the intense colors, and the constant movement in nature. The final visual is pure, ethereal, and cosmic with no physical references. With a thought-out color palette and my unique process, I start on a journey of creation. It is always a balance of letting go and being in control. My head, heart, and hand become one and something pure and personal happens. Vapor-like shapes appear and disappear on the panel, leaving only traces of the initial layer, like the mere reverberation of a memory. Words that describe this piece: Dreamy, dreamlike, B&W, Bold, dynamic, Abstract, Contemporary, meditative, nature, white, black Artwork Details: - This is a hand painted, original painting - Created in California, USA - Professional grade oil paints on Wood Panel - Wood Panel with Birchwood face and 1 5/8"" Poplar wood cradle - Ready to hang with wires and D ring - Signed on the back - Professional-grade paint - Certificate of authenticity included with original Artist Biography: Usha Shukla was born and brought up in New Delhi, India. From early childhood she was fascinated by the outdoors. The vibrant colors of the Indian countryside left a strong impression on her. In 1996 when she moved to San Francisco, California, with her family, she found everything different except her interaction with nature. Today, when outdoors, she once more feels the same breath of fresh air that she felt in her childhood and her past and present become one. After a visit to the Louvre museum in Paris, she found her true passion for art, and started her formal art education. She completed her Graduate program at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, focusing on painting. She has participated in several solo and group shows across the west coast and has won many awards. Her work is collected by several private collectors and businesses. She has been selected for a public art commission by the Alameda County. Two lamppost banners of her paintings are currently placed in the Inner Sunset, San Francisco. Combining her love of nature and passion for art, she paints large abstract paintings in vibrant colors. Her paintings distill the light, the intense colors, and the constant movement in nature. The final visual is pure, ethereal, and cosmic with no physical references. She has a unique process of mark making: Instead of conventional tools like brushes and palette knives, she moves diluted paint on wood panels using an air blower.

Glow in the Dark, Abstract Oil Painting, 2021

Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: This painting is part of the series "Silver Linings". This series is inspired by my days in "Shelter in Place" during the pandemic. Silver Linings, in situations otherwise dull and depressing, gave me emotional and physical balance. The limited color palette emphasizes the value of using limited resources to fill our lives with colors. Words that describe this piece: B&W, Black and White, Contemporary, Modern Artwork Details: - This is a hand painted, original painting - Created in California, USA - Professional grade oil paints on Wood Panel - Wood Panel with Birchwood face and 1 5/8"" Poplar wood cradle - Ready to hang with wires and D ring - Signed on the back - Professional-grade paint - Certificate of authenticity included with original Artist Biography: Usha Shukla...

Empyrean #2, Abstract Oil Painting, 2019
By Usha Shukla
Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: I create abstract paintings inspired by memories of my interaction with nature. When I was a young girl, I enjoyed walks along the Indian countryside, taking in the beauties nature had to offer. Twenty years ago I moved to California, a place so much different from my native land. I felt out of place and disoriented. That is when I took sanctuary in nature. I have a unique technique of painting: Instead of conventional tools like brushes, I paint with air. I dilute the oil paints, pour them on a wood panel and blow air with an air blower or a leaf blower. Vapor-like shapes appear and disappear on the panel, leaving only traces of the initial layer. There is a constant process of adding and subtracting layers of paint until I get the final composition. Words that describe this piece: Abstract, Colorful, Flower, Nature, Blue, Edgy, Vibrant, abstract, Contemporary Artwork Details: - This is a hand painted, original painting - Created in California, USA - Professional grade oil paints on Wood Panel - Wood Panel with Birchwood face and 1 5/8"" Poplar wood cradle - Ready to hang with wires and D ring - Signed on the back - Professional-grade paint - Certificate of authenticity included with original Artist Biography: Usha Shukla...

Scream
By Judith Berry
Located in Montreal, Quebec
The themes visited in this show stem from a desire to extend the vocabulary of my painting while forming a metaphor for the chaos of contemporary life. The title, Escalade, has differing and complimentary functions in English and French. Continuing to paint, over a lengthening career, the medium poses more questions than answers. The title is a reference to my attempt to overcome these difficulties through the expansion of my painting language. The title also refers to the escalation of crises in the world at large. It is the larger picture in which I am a small person trying to make my way. In a concrete sense, the title also refers to a strategy I have taken in a number of these paintings. That is, to re-examine very small paintings...
