Andy Warhol 1928-1987 American Komodo Monitor, from the Vanishing Animals series Features authenticating stamp of the Andy Warhol Estate (en verso) Synthetic polymer paint on paper This powerfully expressive Komodo dragon drawing was created by the founding father of Pop Art, Andy Warhol. Made in the final year of the iconic artist’s life, this impressive large-scale drawing was part of a 1986 series, Vanishing Animals, and stands as the culmination of Warhol’s lifelong love of animals and environmentalism. The Komodo dragon is the world’s largest lizard and an apex predator that can grow up to 10 feet long and weigh over 200 pounds. Native only to a small island in Indonesia, Komodo dragons have been on the IUCN’s Red List since the 1980s, when Warhol created both his 1983 Endangered Species series and the subsequent Vanishing Animals series. In collaboration with Kurt Benirschke, the former Director of Research at the San Diego Zoo, Warhol created sixteen original drawings of critically endangered animals and published the book, Vanishing Animals, with Benirschke in 1986. Among the sixteen drawings, the Komodo dragon stands out as a wonderfully detailed composition with masterful linework and a commanding presence. In Komodo Monitor, Warhol displays with full force his renewed interest in the hand-painting technique of his early Pop paintings. The gestural freedom and virtuosity in Warhol’s bold, fluid lines coalesce to form the lizard’s palpably scaly skin. This work also contains all of the quintessential hallmarks of Warhol’s drawing style, including his interest in outlines and profiles, purposeful paint drips, and long, continuous lines juxtaposed with frantic scribbles. One of the most legendary artists in history, Warhol was known for making art his “brand” and raising questions about originality and reproduction, as well as the nature of celebrity, persona and outward image. Born Andrej Varhola, Jr. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1928, Warhol first made a name for himself as a commercial artist, quickly becoming one of the most successful illustrators of his time. He won numerous awards for his work from the Art Directors Club and the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and his clients included Tiffany & Co., The New York Times, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and others. It was in the late 1950s that he focused more of his attention on his painting. The artist's 1962 series of Campbell's soup cans created a sensation in the art world and launched him into the realm of celebrity. His iconic studio, painted silver and known as the Factory, became the place to be in New York City. Surrounding himself with an ever-rotating group of hipsters and starlets like The Rolling Stones, The Velvet Underground and Edie Sedgwick, he also extended his talents into other fields such as film, publishing, writing, television and music. Except for a brief period in the mid-1960s, he would continue to paint until the end of his life. Andy Warhol

The name of American artist Andy Warhol is all but synonymous with Pop art, the movement he helped shape in the 1960s. He was phenomenally prolific, and the archive of original photography, prints, drawings, paintings and other art that he left behind is beyond vast.

Andy Warhol is known for his clever appropriation of motifs and images from popular advertising and commercials, which he integrated into graphic, vibrant works that utilized mass-production technologies such as printmaking, photography and silkscreening. Later in his career, Warhol expanded his oeuvre to include other forms of media, founding Interview magazine and producing fashion shoots and films on-site at the Factory, his world-famous studio in New York.

Born and educated in in Pittsburgh, Warhol moved to New York City in 1949 and built a successful career as a commercial illustrator. Although he made whimsical drawings as a hobby during these years, his career as a fine artist began in the mid-1950s with ink-blot drawings and hand-drawn silkscreens. The 1955 lithograph You Can Lead a Shoe to Water illustrates how he incorporated in his artwork advertising styles and techniques, in this case shoe commercials.

As a child, Warhol was often sick and spent much of his time in bed, where he would make sketches and put together collections of movie-star photographs. He described this period as formative in terms of his skills and interests. Indeed, Warhol remained obsessed with celebrities throughout his career, often producing series devoted to a famous face or an object from the popular culture, such as Chairman Mao or Campbell’s tomato soup. The 1967 silkscreen Marilyn 25 embodies his love of bright color and famous subjects.

Warhol was a prominent cultural figure in New York during the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. The Factory was a gathering place for the era’s celebrities, writers, drag queens and fellow artists, and collaboration was common. To this day, Warhol remains one of the most important artists of the 20th century and continues to exert influence on contemporary creators.

The depiction of flamingo and Spanish hair comb is an author's play around similar sounding words. The prevalent colours are pink, green and grey. The picture size is 16x12 in (40,5x30 cm) Alisa Fomina, 1989, Minsk (Belarus). Born in an environment with artistic traditions, raised in Andalusia and currently residing in Madrid, Spain. Graduated in Advertising and Public Relations, University Rey Juan Carlos, 2013 (Madrid, Spain). Since childhood, inﬂuenced by family artistic tradition and dedicated to drawing that resulted in the First Prize at the XI Christmas Card Contest (2004) and First Prize at the XII Contest in 2005, Marbella. Her work, mostly paintings and drawings are made for private collectors. However she has been participating with different brands like the Spanish brand ‘Citrique Sunglasses’. In 2016 a collaboration with the "Italian Institute of Culture" in the lectures of the writer Giorgio Caproni with an illustration of the writer. As well, the participation in the project of the Italian writer Alessandro Ferraro in the book '' The secret galleries of the soul. Giorgio Caproni '', for Ediciones Complutense with the portrait of Giorgio Caproni, 2019. A collaboration with the Spanish newspaper ‘El Pais’ with an illustration in one of his reports of the singer Nick Cave. In November 2016 made a deck designed exclusively for ‘Correos España’, the national postal service, in the "Generations Collection", whose originals are exhibited at the Galería Cartel of Málaga in April and May 2017. The illustrations have a graphic technique with the use of materials such as acrylic paint, watercolor pencils and felt-tip pens. Inﬂuenced by the children's world taking as reference the old cartoons, their stories and fantasy with very small details and always with vivid colors.
